Seeking Part-Time/Per Diem Surgical Technologist to work approximately 20 hours per week, Tuesday - Thursday, schedule varies.
Wage DOE: based on 30-year pay scale
Job Summary
This position is responsible for direct patient care within the OR working under the RN/Circ to provide surgical support of patients with a primary focus on laparoscopic bariatric surgery, general surgery, upper endoscopy procedures, and plastic surgery in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care and practice.
Job Responsibilities
- Promote the mission, vision and values of SSSC.
- Demonstrates specific skills required for functioning in the surgical environment as well as functions of a Sterilization Technician (ST), providing basic peri-operative support as necessary and within scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed health practitioner.
- Complete necessary training to support best practice of Infection Control.
- Restock supplies, communicate supply needs effectively, and participate in the maintenance of surgical inventory.
- Provide support to materials management by cross-training to basic supply ordering.
- Assist in cleaning and setting up/moving/testing/troubleshooting medical equipment per policy and procedure guidelines.
- Proficient in setting up the operating room prior to surgery.
- Exercise knowledge and experience in a wide array of surgical procedures.
- Passes instruments to the Surgeon during surgery in a safe and effective manner.
- Engage in materials management evaluations when requested.
- Assist in the cleaning and preparation of patient care areas.
- Assist patients in routine ambulation, Intra-op and post op positioning when requested, assist in transfer to/from patient care areas/OR Suite, and discharge area as necessary.
- Ability to maintain aseptic standards and sterile field when appropriate as defined by policies and procedures.
- Ability to assist an RN or Surgeon in basic procedures within scope of practice.
- Excels in prioritization and execution of patient care with RN oversight as appropriate for scope of practice.
- Participates in efficient operative room turnover between surgery cases.
- Ability/motivation to grow and refine current and future skills relative to current and future patient populations.
- Monitoring patients’ vital signs when necessary under RN oversight.
- Provide support for minor medical procedures as appropriate for scope of practice.

- Support patient flow through the preoperative and postoperative phases of surgery when necessary.
- Serves as patient advocate appropriately and compassionately communicating with patients and their support persons as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with patients, families, co-workers and medical staff in the effective delivery of patient care.
- Develops and maintains effective working relations with co-workers in other areas of the facility to ensure on-going quality of care and customer service.
- Maintains confidentiality of records, patient, employee or facility information at all times.
- Ensures all information and conversations regarding patients are secured from general public access.
- Participates in meetings, committees and task forces within the organization in order to participate in system improvements, communications and operations.
- Adheres to the general administrative, human resource and departmental policies and procedures and upholds the standards of professional CST practice.
- Attends all mandatory unit and organization meetings and in-services.
- Participates in department performance improvement activities to ensure the development and implementation of processes which support quality patient care and effective work performance.
- Accepts responsibility for maintaining and improving professional competence including maintaining personal educational profile, demonstrating motivation for enhancing and improving professional competency through additional training, seminars and in-services.
- Attends, completes and maintains documentation of all mandatory education programs including but not limited to Basic Life Support and other certifications required.

- Hourly/Non-Exempt
- Monday – Thursday, 6:30am – 4pm, Friday work as scheduled/required.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Graduate of an Accredited Certified Surgical Technologist program.
- Registered as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with the State of Washington without restriction.
- Current BLS/CPR certification.
- 1-year Scrub experience in a wide variety of specialties preferred; proficiency of Laparoscopic and Open General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Bariatric Surgery required.
- In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual's knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach with hands often and arms above shoulders occasionally, stoop, crouch or twist frequently, kneel or squat seldom.
- Lift/Carry/Push/Pull/Support up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, high pressure steam, chemical, electrical, mechanical, bio-waste, stress, back strain, body fluids, etc.
- Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, multi-stimuli, etc.
- Pressure from high volume census to meet deadlines to obtain adequate instrumentation from vendors.
