Position Title : Customer Service Representative Internship

Position Summary :

The Boise National Forest McCall Ranger District is recruiting one Customer Service Representative Intern beginning April 2025 and ending in July 2025.

About Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) :

Northwest Youth Corps was created in 1984 to offer teenagers and young adults an education-based, work experience modeled after the historic Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930's. Today, we serve over 1,000 youth and young adults each year across a four-state region who restore critical habitat, build trails, lead volunteers, and educate youth and young adults to learn, grow and experience success.

Duties and Responsibilities :

A Customer Service Representative provides services such as greeting visitors, answering telephones, responding to routine inquiries from a variety of customers and providing overall support to the administrative staff on the unit.

Incumbent is responsible for issuing and maintaining identification cards and badges, credentials, and passes. Administrative duties involve formats and specific processing functions involve varying number and sequence of steps and use of different functions from one assignment to another. Some assignments involve using software to create or edit a variety of standard documents requiring different procedures and functions. Processing steps and procedures required to complete assignments are varied and numerous. Steps and procedures differ.

Incumbent is expected to recognize discrepancies and correct or question originators in such matters as improper formatting; errors in spelling, grammar, or punctuation; missing information, or discrepancies between the nature of the material and the processing instruction cited.

75% - Greets visitors and answers the telephone. Provides routine information and answers many types of inquiries on all research and / or forest activities such as the whereabouts of key personnel and directions to facilities. Refers difficult, technical, or special questions to the appropriate staff. Provides answers to a wide variety of inquiries. Provides explanations of office functions, describing specific requirements, providing basic instructions, or a similar degree of detail. Performs data entry and typing tasks as needed.

15% - Serves As Collection Officer to sell such items as National Forest maps, Christmas tree permits, 2400-4's (Forest Product Sale Permits), and Golden Age Passports in accordance with manual and handbook requirements. Is held accountable for the funds collected. Maintains accountability records as required.

10% - Uses word processing software and printing equipment to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print a variety of standardized documents using a glossary of prerecorded formats, form letters, standard paragraphs, and mailing lists. May use database or spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort, or calculate, and retrieve data for standard reports.

Required Qualifications :

  • Skill in operating office automation equipment such as a word processor, microcomputer, or computer terminal, and related equipment such as printers and modems, using a standard typewriter style keyboard with additional function keys to produce work accurately and effectively.
  • Ages 18-30 (up to 35 for veterans)
  • U.S. Citizen or lawful, permanent resident
  • Must pass a background / driver check
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Driver's License

Desired Qualifications :

  • Government Driver's License.
  • Uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently but refers deviations from standard procedures to supervisor.

    Duties are performed within Payette National Forest, McCall Ranger District, McCall, ID.

    Terms of Employment :

    One intern will complete a term of service (640 hours), starting April 7, 2025 through July 25, 2025 for a total of 16-Weeks. The intern will average 40 hours of labor per week, minus holidays. Interns are responsible for providing their own personal transportation and food. Housing may be provided.

    Program Benefits :

    Interns will earn $10,240 living allowance dispersed on a monthly basis throughout the 16 weeks. The living allowance is taxable. The position will also include a $201.19 gear reimbursement fund.
