Job Description
The Automation Operator reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The MPA Lab Processor is responsible for the efficient operation of the pre-analytical phase of patient testing within the core laboratory, as well as other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Perform accurate and timely loading of the MPA processing instrument, including correct specimen requirements, knowledge of specimens not acceptable for instrumentation, and proper rack choice based on sample type and size.
- Responsible for minor troubleshooting of the MPA as the need arises as well as proper notification of the appropriate staff if additional assistance is required.
- Responsible for any and all daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance as required for proper instrument upkeep as well as associated documentation of such.
- Responsible for receiving, processing, labeling, and distributing specimens.
- The position requires a thorough understanding of laboratory specimens as well as the HIS/LIS computer systems.
Qualifications
Required:
- 1 year(s) experience in laboratory specimen processing department
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Understanding of medical terminology
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
- Second language proficiency
- Three years of experience in a reference lab setting
