Job Description
The Lead Cytotechnologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:
- Assist management in the organization and direction of day-to-day activities
- Trains and mentors cytotechnologists and staff, including performing 100% quality control rescreen of all new hire cytotechnologists, computer education, and review of all policy and procedures
- Participates and assists in a wide range of problem solving activities relating to diagnosis, administrative, information technology and customer service
- Participate in and assist with quality control and quality assurance programs
- Perform FNA training and annual competency assessment reviews for all cytotechnologists
- Complete colleague competency assessments
- Organize department workflow; review and maintain all pending lists and work lists, assist with bench assignments
- Act as a department resource in the absence of the department supervisor
- Perform routine Cytology screening on gynecologic, non-gynecologic and FNA specimens submitted for evaluation
- Maintain diagnostic screening percentages at CAP standard averages, including ASCUS rate and ASC:SIL ratio
- Complete all competency assessments in a timely manner
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technologist, Medical Lab Tech, Clinical Lab Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the national ASCP certifying exam. Must provide proof of Education as stated in the CLIA guidelines.
- Must obtain Cytotechnologist (CT) (ASCP) or equivalent certification within 1 year of hire date.
- Individual must meet requirements for performing high complexity testing as defined by federal licensing guidelines (CLIA) and accreditation agencies (TJC,CAP).
