Role
The Director of Development is a critical member of the district leadership team, owning the overall training and development infrastructure for the under 5 advisors in the office. This individual should be knowledgeable regarding the activity, productivity, and career milestone expectations for full-time financial advisors, with the skill sets necessary to influence behavior and achieve results across all categories. Taking responsibility for coaching all advisors in their first 24 months (with ongoing support thereafter), this role is a primary relationship touchpoint for new advisors and contributes to the overall retention efforts of the firm. This individual will also have the opportunity to engage in the selection process, discussing the advisor expectations and training platform in detail, as well as significant input and responsibility for enterprise goal creation and tracking. This individual should be prepared to add value in every interaction – from assigning joint work partners during FPA to working through mental obstacles with an advisor to conducting trend analysis in an individual’s practice, and more.
Responsibilities
- Provide overview of training in the selection process
- Own onboarding, pre-training Introductory Day, and specific aspects of Financial Planning Academy (e.g., checking in on phoning and prospecting results, touching base throughout training, etc.)
- Serve as the “face of FPA”, guiding new advisors through the FPA process, debriefing with them regularly, and introducing speakers throughout training weeks [SPECIFIC TO DT ROLE]
- Coach new advisors on maintaining high activity and effective sales habits (3x/week in the first six months, 2x/week in the second six months, and 1x/week in the 2nd year, with ongoing coaching as needed thereafter)
- Prepare end-of-week coaching summary emails to be sent to leadership team (cc CDO)
- Provide training on and accountability around accurate use of CRM software
- Prepare for, schedule, and lead Board of Review meetings for all under 5 advisors, assessing progress and growth alongside mentors and key leaders in the office
- Collect and track business data to ensure pacing for individual and collective goals
- Create content for and coordinate weekly in-office development meetings, including but not limited to: Monday Morning Meeting, Language Institute, Quick Start, office hours, and the Effner Launch Program
- Partner with leadership team to monitor advisors’ progress and results; provide recommendations for coaching and mentorship opportunities
- Weekly connection and coaching with mentors/Ds to align in development strategies
- Champion development opportunities, ongoing training, & continuing education programs (e.g., Network Office Day, the Kaplan Path to CFP program, etc.) and assist advisors with prework as needed
- Monitor progress toward and coach advisors to achievement of Performance Pathway Incentives
- Celebrate career achievements of advisors (including drafting celebration emails in a timely fashion)
- Build and maintain high morale and positive momentum towards district goals
- Creatively and proactively problem-solve obstacles to advisor success in the career
- Connect with SET on a weekly basis to monitor pipeline
- Assist advisors in managing open case inventory effectively, providing sales coaching as needed
- Assign appropriate joint work partners for all new advisors throughout and after FPA
- Provide mentoring outside of regularly scheduled coaching meetings as appropriate (focused on case development and recommendations)
- Assist in coaching and mentoring college advisors as needed
- Run modules for IFPA training as needed
- Attend all district, enterprise, and national events, including social events, happy hours, celebrations, Annual Meeting, Western Regional Meeting, etc.
- Prepare for and attend all weekly and monthly district leadership meetings, as well as quarterly enterprise meetings (Big Four)
- Attend district planning retreat and craft district goals for upcoming year
- Actively support the office’s recruiting and referral culture through regularly meeting with the Director of Recruiting and identifying personal relationships to leverage in connection with district’s growth priorities

- Base salary $60,000 annually
