What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Planning Associate position at Northwestern Mutual?
The Financial Planning Associate is part of the Planning Department, an internal team that supports subscribing advisors and their staff through behind-the-scenes service work. The primary responsibilities of the associate are focused on investment paperwork, creating comprehensive financial plans, running investment reports and creating investment recommendations in alignment with the Northwestern Mutual planning philosophy and client-specific goals.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Prepare, complete and submit investment paperwork with a high degree of accuracy
- Prepare comprehensive financial plans using existing best practices for life stage appropriate recommendations
- Multitask to work with a variety of investment accounts at one time
- Prepare asset allocations analysis and investment analysis reports
- Implement compliance best practices by preparing annual reviews, reallocating and rebalancing accounts, implementing recommendations and performing account maintenance as necessary
- Create insurance illustrations based on best practice template and/or advisor specific request
- Perform analysis of client’s investment portfolios, making recommendations with regard to fund selection, investment amount, risk tolerance and time horizon
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (Finance, Business or related field) or equivalent work experience
- Minnesota State insurance license or ability to quickly obtain
- Series 7 and Series 63 license (or ability to obtain within the first year of employment)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work closely with team members to ensure timely delivery of proposals and implementation
- Strong customer focus and excellent listening skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Desire to further education and credentials
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the willingness to work with other teams in order to meet and exceed goals
- Knowledge of investment products, superior analytical, organizational, research, initiative, and multi-tasking skills
