Summary:
The Ward Clerk provides clerical support for the clinical and/or support staff interfacing on the unit in the provision of Patient- Centered Care. She/he maintains the patients' charts in an orderly and accurate manner, adhering to strict confidentiality practices. The position requires accurate and timely processing of physician orders utilizing the computer, phone, fax and/or copier. Additionally, preparing discharge instructions, scheduling appointments/procedures, preparing transfer documents and any associated tasks are expected. She/he orders supplies on-line through designated computer programs, keeping an adequate supply of stock, non-stock, office items and forms, essential for carrying out direct and indirect patient care activities. Over-stocking is to be avoided. Forms for use during computer down times are to be available in adequate supply to meet the station needs. She/he is responsible for identifying and entering charges for observation and out patients and for notifying registration of changes in status for observation and out patients. Professional and courteous communication is expected at all times.
Requirements:
High school education is the only requirement. Some computer, typing, and phone skills are helpful. An even temperament is a must in dealing with all the personalities encountered.
