Responsibilities

The Resident’s role is to dispense, compound, label, store, and ensure the proper use of pharmaceutical preparations, contribute to the efficient operation of the department, direct the Pharmacy Technicians and advance the goals of Norton Healthcare. The Resident uses the principles of pharmaceutical care to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes for individual patients. It is expected that the Resident shall exercise leadership in all matters related to the medication use process for patients of all ages. This position requires a high level of interaction with physicians, nurses, patients, other health care providers, as well as pharmacy management in problem solving and project interaction. Work involves non-standardized tasks requiring professional judgment. Errors could lead to cost and quality problems for the Pharmacy Department. The postgraduate year two (PGY2) resident will build upon Doctor of Pharmacy education and competencies established in postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency training to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in a focused area of pharmacy practice. The PGY2 program increases the resident’s depth of knowledge and abilities to raise the resident’s level of expertise in medication therapy management in the area of focus.The pharmacy resident will be held to all policies and procedures of Norton Healthcare. In addition, as a participant in the residency program, they will be held to the residency specific policies and procedures including Pharmacy Residency Dismissal Policy, Residency Assessment Strategy Policy, and Resident Duty Hours and Moonlighting policy. The duration of the residency is one year (12 months). The resident must meet obligations and responsibilities outlined in the program specific agreement letter, this includes but is not limited to satisfactory progress toward attainment of all residency program goals and objectives. Failure to do so could result in termination of employment and dismissal from the residency program (see Dismissal Policy – provided to resident during orientation). If the organization separates the resident’s employment, the resident is dismissed from the program and will not earn a certificate of completion. In order to receive a certificate of achievement of PGY2 residency training the resident must meet all requirements as outlined in the program agreement. Vacation/Sick Time (Flextime) will be administered based on resident program agreement. The resident will follow professional, family and sick leave policies for Norton Healthcare with the understanding that goals and objectives of the residency must be met and lack of completion can result in failure to receive Residency Certificate.


Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program or one in the ASHP accreditation process
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Pharmacist Kentucky Pharmacist licensure is required on or before day one of the program. PGY2 Adult Oncology Residents willl ahve 30 days form the first day of residency to obtain an Indiana Pharmacist license.
