The Norton Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Minibus Driver. This position reports to the Transportation Coordinator and Director of Special Education and is Full-Time-195 days. The Head Minibus Driver is responsible for overseeing the district’s minibus operations, including route creation for the regular school year and Extended School Year (ESY), dispatching minibus drivers, and coordinating vehicle maintenance to ensure compliance with safety regulations. This position also serves as a backup driver in the event of absences. The role requires a School Bus Certificate and close collaboration with the Facilities Director for vehicle upkeep. Key Responsibilities include:
Routing & Dispatch
Develop and adjust minibus routes for both the regular school year and ESY, ensuring efficiency and safety.
Communicate route assignments and changes to drivers, school staff, and families as needed.
Act as the primary dispatcher for minibus drivers, providing real-time support for any on-route issues.
Driving & Safety Compliance
Serve as the spare driver in case of call-outs or emergency situations.
Ensure all drivers adhere to safety standards and district policies.
Maintain knowledge of state and federal school transportation regulations and ensure compliance.
Vehicle Maintenance & Coordination
Oversee the regular maintenance and inspection of minibuses and vans to ensure they meet all safety and operational standards.
Work with the Facilities Director to schedule repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
Maintain records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
Administrative & Other Duties
Train and support new minibus drivers as needed.
Keep accurate documentation for transportation records, including driver schedules, vehicle logs, and compliance reports.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
