Job Title School Nurse
Reports to Building Principal
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the building principal, provides nursing care to students within the building.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Participates in developing and implementing school health policies and procedures.
Utilizes correct nursing procedures and promotes the comfort and safety of all students.
Maintains accurate and complete health records for students in building.
Manages time and resources in the provision of school health services.
Plans and implements appropriate health screenings as indicated by Board Policy.
Monitors specific health conditions, which can have an impact on learning, and develops an Individual Health Plan to assist all school staff in meeting students’ health needs.
Instructs staff on plan of care and health needs of students.
Communicates with parents in order to obtain information relative to each student’s medical history and to provide follow-up information to parents.
Monitors for outbreaks of infectious and/or communicable diseases.
Manages medicaid system for building.
Educates students and staff about health care issues and serves as a resource for students and staff.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent.

Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
Knowledge of current medications, their actions and uses.
Knowledge of quality standards, procedures and protocols.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications Profile
Registered Nurse with valid Iowa Licensure Required.
Current CPR Certification (or the ability to obtain prior to start) Required.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 20 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping.
Working Conditions
Varied.
Terms of Employment
190 day contract in accordance with the Master Contract.
Evaluation
In accordance with state code and local performance criteria.
