What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher - Summer Academy K-4 (2024-2025 Summer) position at Norwalk Public Schools?
- Teach research-based literacy classroom instruction and interventions as designed for the K-5 Summer Reading Academy Program.
- Administer progress monitoring assessments, analyze results and modify instruction based on this data.
- Provide coaching and support for classroom instructional assistant as designed for the K-5 Summer Reading Academy Program.
- Participate fully in all K-5 Summer Reading Academy meetings and trainings as required for program implementation.
- Maintain attendance, outcome data and all data that provide evidence of successful implementation of the K-5 Summer Academy Program.
- Prepare reports as required for schools, parents and the curriculum office.
- Valid Connecticut teaching certification.
- Advanced degree and/or comparable expertise in literacy instruction with an in-depth knowledge of language and reading development.
- Preferably, previous teaching experience working in Norwalk’s Summer Academies.
- Demonstrated experience with implementing progress monitoring measures.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivery and successful implementation of reading programs.
- Proven experience in working with teams of educational professionals in collaborative settings.
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction and assessment development aligned to the CCSS.
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills in working with young children and their families.
- Sensitivity, understanding and appreciation for the needs and strengths of a diverse school district and community.
- Ability to commit to teaching all 5 weeks/25 days of Summer Academy.
