POSITION SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Hawaiian Ambassador will work to ensure that programs (performances, crafts, classes, dance, lectures and commentary) on board the NCLA fleet will educate, entertain and enthuse, our guests and crew about the rich culture and history of the Hawaiian Islands and its people.

  • This role is responsible for creating an effective Hawaiian program for all Guests and ensures that each event takes place safely and promptly as scheduled.
  • Under the direction of the Cruise Director, the Hawaiian Ambassador is responsible for participation and leadership of all assigned activities.
  • Is responsible for teaching Guests how to make Fresh Flower & Kukui Nut Leis as well as teaching all Hawaiian Art’s & Craft classes.
  • He/she is responsible for sharing the History of all the crafts and the meaning of Aloha, ‘Ohana, and sharing Leis in all the Arts and Crafts Classes.
  • Needs to teach guests on how to dance the hula and history behind Hula Dancing.
  • The Hawaiian Ambassador is responsible for preparing guests for a main stage Hula Graduation Show.
  • Needs to work with the Band and Kama’aina Duo in order to plan, rehearse, perform, and host a Hawaiian Show called Kanikapila.
  • He/she is responsible for giving morning Port Lectures introducing each island, activities to do on each island, history and culture of each island, while cross-promoting for Shore Excursions available on each island.
  • He/she is responsible for giving Destination Lectures that are focused on the history and culture of Hawaii, topics to include: Hawaiian History, Hawaiian Language, and Hawaiian Culture.
  • Is responsible for narrations during the planned scenic voyages during the cruise, specifically the Na Pali Coastline and Kilauea Volcano.
  • Needs to create a Hawaiian Entertainment Grid and completing a Voyage Report at the end of the voyage.
  • Is responsible for the ordering and safe storage of all Hawaiian arts & crafts supplies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SEMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge and experience is required for the following: performing Hula, ancient and modern, on stage during the Welcome Aboard Show, the Farewell Variety Show, and Kanikapila Show, and as scheduled.
  • One year of experience serving as an effective and entertaining Master of Ceremonies is required.
  • Knowledge of Hawaiian Entertainment, Music and Hula dance is required.
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in the ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i, or Hawaiian Language is required.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of the background of Hawaiian culture and history is required.
  • Teaching background and/or Hawaiian entertainment background is preferred.
  • Strong background in public speaking.
  • Minimum one year of previous experience in the service industry is required. One year experience in tourism/travel industry preferred.
  • Intermediate to Advanced software skills with the following programs are required: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in a hospitality related discipline is required.

Pay: From $55,250.00 per month

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
