Fulfilling the mission of Norwich University, the Security Analyst I supports, monitors, and maintains the University's information security infrastructure to protect its computer systems and networks from cyber-attacks, while helping execute the University's information security program in compliance with University policy and applicable regulations. Plans, coordinates, and implements security measures using industry best practices and common tools, educating users on security, installing security software, monitoring for breaches, and responding to cyber incidents. Collaborates with the information security team and managed security service provider for threat hunting, event monitoring, investigation, and incident response.
Remote work is authorized for this position.
Salary: $66,323/year or more depending on experience.
Essential Functions
- Monitors computer networks for security issues.
- Investigates security breaches and other cybersecurity incidents.
- Installs security measures and operate software to protect systems and information infrastructure, including firewalls and data encryption programs.
- Documents security breaches and assess the damage they cause.
- Works with the security team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities.
- Fixes detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard.
- Develops university-wide best practices for IT security.
- Works with the CISO and CIO to develop and implement university-wide information security policies
- Performs penetration testing.
- Helps colleagues install security software and understand information security management.
- Advises on potential security threats.
- Conducts internal compliance audits.
- Stays current on security issues.
- Researches security enhancements and make recommendations to management.
- Stays up to date on information technology trends, news, and security standards.
- Serves as a member of the incident response team.
- Assists with escalated IT Helpdesk tickets.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent training/experience.
- Experience in information security or a related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP network protocols.
- Basic programming/scripting skills.
- Experience using Vulnerability Assessment Tools.
- Hands-on experience in threat hunting and investigation using SIEM and other technologies.
- Knowledge and experience with chain of custody, evidence collection, preservation, and best practices.
- Familiarity with computer network penetration testing and associated techniques.
- Understanding of information security best practices, including NIST 800-171 and/or 800-53.
- Knowledge of firewalls, proxies, SIEM, antivirus, and IDPS concepts.
- Ability to identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities and explain remediation techniques.
- Strong understanding of patch management, with the ability to deploy patches in a timely manner while considering business impact.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook)
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work some evening or weekend hours
