What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Director of Corporate & Foundational Philanthropy position at Norwich University?
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by being responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic gifts from corporate and foundation sources. In coordination with Norwich University leadership, faculty, and staff, strategically engages foundation and corporation partners to develop relationships and secure funding to advance Norwich's priorities and initiatives. Collaborates with Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) team members on strategic planning, particularly in relation to the University's overarching fundraising and partnership goals. Partners with Associate Vice President of Development Strategic Planning and outside campaign consultant to plan and execute feasibility study and future campaign activities and initiatives.

Essential Functions
- Engages foundation and corporation partners to develop relationships and secure funding to advance Norwich's priorities and initiatives.
- Collaborates with the Deans, faculty, and Center Directors to stay informed about current and upcoming projects and program status, needs and priorities.
- Meets regularly with Office of Institutional Research, Provost's Office staff to remain current with research opportunities and foundation funders with the goals to coordinate potential asks, share information, and avoid conflict.
- Works with faculty and to translate very technical information into a value proposition to non-technical external audiences and corporate prospects.
- Conducts research, writes "Letters of Intent" (LOI), White Papers, Proposals, Stewardship Reports, Annual Reports, Acknowledgment Letters, and Press Releases, as needed, to guide prospect relationships from identification to funding.
- Serves as the primary moves manager, and grows over a period, a portfolio of fifty corporate and foundation prospects at various stages of the donor cycle.
- Plans, prepares, and executes site-visits for perspective corporate and foundation institutional funders.
- Maintains on-going institutional relationships to meet annual stewardship reporting guidelines mandated by funders.
- Drafts correspondence for the President of Norwich University, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Vice President of DAR for corporate and foundation prospect opportunities.
- Maintains fundraising reports as appropriate to monitor individual progress and report on progress/efficacy of the Corporate & Foundational program.
- Tracks corporate and foundation donors and utilizes technology to maintain historic records of institutional relationships.
- Supports the planning and execution of Homecoming events and other university wide events as needed.
- Assists with planning/staffing other DAR, and university-wide initiatives, etc. (e.g., Military Writers Symposium, Todd Lecture Series Graduation, Parents /Family Weekend).
- Serves as liaison to the Board of Fellows for the School of Business.
- Ensures proactive compliance with the mandatory data standards and shared "metrics language" of NU Advancement and campaign policies. Ensure all fundraising projections are current monthly, stewardship reports are completed on time, and all prospect activity is documented in database.
- Keeps current of national trends in corporate and foundation philanthropy and relevant business trends impacting giving and the economy.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred.
- 5 years of experience in Corporate and Foundation Relations or equivalent experience.
- Campaign experience highly preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Superb writing skills with attention to detail, clear and concise writing, and an ability to appreciate the unique voices of university leadership.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, support, and mentorship to colleagues
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook), Raiser's Edge or similar software.
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 15 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work some evening or weekend hours
- Travel as needed (public or private transportation)
