Achieving academic excellence requires the principal to work collaboratively with students, parents and staff to provide a challenging curriculum delivered in a safe and nurturing environment that provides all students with opportunities to explore, participate and excel in the four As academics, athletics, activities and the artsIn discharging his/her responsibilities, the Principal should analyze the educational needs of students, teachers and the community, and develop plans to implement programs responsive to these needs. He/she should allocate resources equitably and encourage staff and community initiative/involvement in the development of 21st Century instructional programs. Further, the Principal must be able to select, use and interpret appropriate evaluation techniques and instruments and use the results to improve programs and the performance of personnel.Finally, the Principal should foster a school environment favorable to openness of inquiry and devoid of ridicule and develop an atmosphere of acceptance and respect for individual and group differences in values, religion, race, language and social background. Reports to: Superintendent of SchoolsSupervises: All personnel assigned to school buildingDuties and Responsibilities: Possess outstanding educational leadership and administrative skills. Demonstrate expertise in curriculum, professional development and successful instructional technology practices. Define and articulate a vision for the school. Integrate best practices and literacy initiatives into the high school curriculum. Encourage authentic/alternative assessment of students. Assume responsibility for all matters relating to the supervision and oversight of building staff, including but not limited to evaluation, hiring, discipline, discharge and assignment of personnel, including non-teaching personnel. Observe all Massachusetts General Laws, School Committee Policies and School Department Regulations and Procedures and be responsible for the implementation and observance of same by the schools staff and students. Advise Central Administration on matters of enrollment and staffing and make recommendations to the Superintendent. Administer school budget and properly manage school funds. Maintain proper discipline of students and enforce the Student Handbook in a fair and equitable manner. Meet regularly with public safety officials on issues that relate to the school. Provide for safety precautions for students going to, from, and within school. Supervise student activities and continue to develop extra-curricular activities to meet the needs of all students. Stimulate enthusiastic support of the school by students, teachers and parents, through projects and activities. Implement all appropriate state and local policies and regulations regarding School Councils. Work closely and cooperate with the PTO/PTA. Develop and encourage solid community partnerships and utilize community resources. Recognize and welcome appropriate parent involvement in the school and foster strong home-school connections. Keep the Superintendent abreast of issues, concerns and incidents which occur at the school. Attend all school functions which require the presence of the Principal. Work closely with other Principals, Directors, Department Chairs, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent as a participating and collaborative member of the Administrative Team. Perform any other tasks and assume other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.Work Year: Fifty-Two (52) weeks.Terms and Conditions of Employment: According to Individual Contract.
