Job Title: System Design Engineer
Location: Arden Hills, MN
Contract: 12 Months contract
Job Description:
HM is focuses on developing software-enabled features for embedded systems within a large team (100 ), while working closely with a core group of 5-10 people in a collaborative environment.
The System Design Engineer will be responsible for system-level design of implantable medical devices in the Cardiology Division. The role involves:
- Developing system requirements based on user needs and stakeholder inputs
- Designing and documenting system architecture
- Guiding hardware, firmware, and software development for new product features
- Supporting system design activities using systems engineering principles
✅ Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving – Address system interaction challenges
✅ System Architecture Development – Use design tools to create system-level interactions
✅ Documentation & Compliance – Create design rationale, trace requirements, analyze system changes
✅ Regulatory Support – Write reports to meet internal and external regulatory requirements
✅ Tool Utilization – Work with Accurev, JIRA, Windchill for documentation and version control
Required Qualifications✔️ Bachelor's (5 years) or Master's (3 years) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
✔️ Embedded Systems & Medical Device Experience – Experience in design, development, and testing of embedded systems, especially active implantable medical devices
✔️ System Requirements & Specification Development – Ability to define, interpret, and develop system requirements
✔️ Hardware Testing Skills – Experience with oscilloscopes, DMMs, and data acquisition devices
✔️ Programming Experience – Proficiency in Python, C, C , Java, or Assembly
Preferred Qualifications➕ 3 years in Software or Electrical Engineering
➕ 2 years working in a structured system development lifecycle
➕ Experience with Class II/III Medical Device Regulations
➕ Familiarity with Requirements Management/PLM tools
➕ Product Development & Customer Interaction Experience
➕ Knowledge of Agile & Project Management Concepts
