PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for providing competent credit analysis for lending activities, assistance in the administration of borrowing accounts, conduct appraisal reviews, training for business loan staff, and assistance in completion of special projects and assignments. Processed credit applications; verifies credit references and information; and determines credit limits. Prepares reports on the status of credit and collections, and other operating systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes a thorough, in-depth analysis of new commercial credit requests, credit change requests, renewals and annual relationship reviews. Recommend risk rating changes when analysis merits.
  • Prepare spreadsheets, reports, summaries and opinions for lenders on new, renewal and existing loans. Reports findings to Commercial Credit Manager and Chief Credit Officer that may have an adverse effect on the loan collateral or the borrower’s ability to repay the loan.
  • Completing loan application forms and submitting to loan committees for approval with notes and opinions. Ensures company credit exposures on assigned loans are within set risk bearing limits.
  • Completes loan work-ups and proper execution to ensure adequate enforceability of company's position for new and existing loans reviewed. This includes loan details, document review, financial copies, approvals, etc.
  • Assist with development and execution of proper documentation procedures and record keeping of Commercial Credit Department.
  • Lead or assist with projects assigned to the Commercial Credit Department. Projects consist of but not limited to changes in compliance and regulations, software upgrades, monitoring or industry or borrower concentrations, risk assessments, and feasibility studies for efficiency gains such as out-sourcing, in-sourcing, centralization of duties/staff, etc.
  • Prepares various reports for executive level management. Assist with Audits and Regulatory compliance issues and assignments.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position will require the knowledge to effectively process Commercial loan applications, establishes and maintains internal controls, maintains security controls, controls loan quality, and analyzes loan products to attain the lending goals and objectives of the Credit Union. A professional appearance and attitude as well as the ability to communicate, coach, counsel, and motivate the staff to accomplish goals is necessary.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • An individual must have a bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred, but not required)
  • Have a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Commercial Lending or Underwriting for a large credit union or other financial institution.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

A qualified individual must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. This position will require the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and strong communication skills are necessary to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, the Board of Directors, and individual members. This person will make formal presentations on Commercial lending or general Commercial credit to groups outside of the Credit Union.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

This position will require the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Also, the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry is necessary.

REASONING ABILITY:

A qualified person must be able to solve practical problems and to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Also, the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form will be required.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:

This position will require the use of Credit Union's computer system for input/output transactions. Such use includes, but not limited to, retrieval of information, printing out individual statements of account, inputting data, updating information, special access to certain fields, and general maintenance of the credit/lending financial and ancillary records. In addition, this person must be able to utilize a variety of software programs such as Excel and Word.

A qualified individual will also need the ability to utilize on-screen loan processing provided by the Credit Union's core processing or by a stand-alone Personal Computer system tied to the core system as well as other ancillary software programs. Also, the ability to operate standard office machines such as a photocopier; fax machine, personal computer and any such equipment normally found in a modern loan department of a bank or credit union.

Demonstrates leadership skills by knowledge of area; ability through staff to meet goals and member service levels; hold staff accountable to agreed metrics, as well as interact with all levels of the organization in a professional manner.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The partner must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
