The Enterprise Infrastructure Manager position is an on-campus position. Upon successful completion of the employee’s 90-to-180-day probationary period, the employee may be eligible for up to one (1) day of telework per week.

Basic Function
The Enterprise Infrastructure Manager leads an experienced technical team of high performing professionals to plan, and optimize the University’s campus infrastructure and related systems including the campus copper and fiber network (wired and wireless), cyber and data security (firewalls, VPN, data security and compliance), servers (virtual and physical), Active Directory and DNS, identity and access Management, backup and disaster recovery, desktop technologies (computers, printers and phones), M365 and Azure cloud technologies. The Manager reports to the Director of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, serves as a member of the OIT Leadership Team, and collaborates frequently with administrators, faculty, and staff.
Major responsibilities include acting as an enabler for campus-wide technology efforts at Notre Dame, and assisting the Director of Information Technology in identifying and prioritizing capital project initiatives that support the NDMU mission and the IT strategic plan. The duties of the Infrastructure Manager include project management, vendor management, and procurement of equipment needed to maintain and improve the campus infrastructure. The Manager provides a support role for axillary services including enterprise printing, dining services technology, mailroom technology, IP security cameras, and door access.
Essential Functions
- Management. Oversees the OIT Infrastructure team, including hiring, performance, development, and workload of staff, short and long-term planning, project oversight, budget management, etc. In alignment with college goals and needs, use industry standards and best practices to lead, plan, and optimize enterprise infrastructure including servers (on-prem and virtual), storage, wired and wireless networking, telecommunications, and access control and monitoring systems; lead, plan, and optimize applications and services such as Microsoft 365 and other platforms and tools in the enterprise infrastructure portfolio.
- Network Management - Wired . Serves as primary technician supporting layers 1-3 of the OSI model. Manages the design, provisioning and installation of all campus cable-plant required to support voice / video and data traffic campus-wide. Designs, configures and deploys all switching and routing infrastructure and troubleshoots any issues that occur. Manages all technology closets and server room equipment throughout the campus including Power over Ethernet and UPS backup devices.
- Network Management - Wireless. Designs, coordinates the installation of, and monitors the campus’ wireless network. Oversees all troubleshooting efforts and is responsible for the complete lifecycle management of wireless infrastructure.
- Security Administration. Provides leadership regarding all aspects of cyber and data security. Engages with subject matter experts and provides recommendations on the development and implementation of a comprehensive network and data security program.
- Microsoft 365 Administration – Oversees and supports the M365 Administrator and LAN Engineer in providing NDMU Faculty / Staff / Students with the cloud-based tools, apps and services that are accessible and secure.
- Telephone and Internet Service Providers and Systems . Provides guidance regarding best-practices for telephone service to the campus. Also provides similar guidance regarding the design and provisioning of the campus’ WAN, LAN, and public networks. Makes recommendations regarding Internet service providers and works to maintain consistent and continuous uptime of all services.
- Account and Identity Management. Provides leadership and counsel to the LAN Engineer as it relates to the successful planning and implementation of identity and access related products and services used at NDMU.
- Campus telephone systems . Researches and makes recommendations regarding campus telephone system(s) including desk phones, soft phones, and cell phones. Oversees all break-fix efforts managed by NDMU Unified Communications Specialist.
- Computer standards and campus refresh program. Evaluates computer hardware, software and peripherals (printers, scanners, multi-function machines) annually. Makes recommendations regarding campus standards for faculty, staff and students. Ensures that an adequate rotation / replacement plan is in place for all campus computing assets that ensures proper functionality commensurate with campus needs. Oversees the Computer Support Specialist in the management and deployment of computers.
- Budgeting for campus assets. Advise the IT Director on all strategic planning initiatives and provide annual operating and capital budget recommendations in alignment with the University and OIT strategic plans.
- Maintenance Contract Administration. Researches and makes recommendations regarding maintenance contracts for all mission-essential networks, equipment, and systems. Update the IT Vendor and Emergency Contact worksheet on an as needed basis (no less than annually).
- Backup and Risk Management Procedures. Works with the LAN Engineer to develop, test, and maintains a current backup disaster recovery plan for mission-essential servers, systems, and application databases. Research and stay abreast of industry standards and best practices related to backup security and offsite replication options.
- Data Center and Server Administration. Alongside the LAN Engineer, researches and stays abreast of industry standards and best practices to ensure NDMU follows the most effective and efficient server architecture standards. Provides leadership regarding the expansion of NDMU’s server farm or the migration of appropriate workloads to cloud or SaaS environments. Ensures applications are utilizing the most efficient data storage systems to provide acceptable IOPS. Data center networking should be properly configured to provide necessary throughput.
- Ensure system documentation and guides for critical processes / systems are created and kept up to date.
- Schedule and perform periodic tests to validate business continuity, data protection, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Serve on University committees, taskforces, workgroups, etc. as designated.
- Performs such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology / Systems or related field from an accredited college or university required. Certification(s) in Network Administration, Security Administration, etc. preferred.
Experience : At least five (5) years of progressive, responsible, professional experience in information technology / systems, including supervisory experience, is required. Direct technical experience working with computers, servers, network equipment, and network security is required. Higher education professional experience is preferred.

Working Conditions : Normal office environment (walking, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching, etc.). Medium physical demands such as bending, carrying, kneeling, lifting, and pushing may be required – Must be able to lift at least 25lbs. Some night and weekend work may be occasionally required.
