What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional – Flexible Schedule Required position at Nova Home Support?
Work Schedule: This is a blended 40-hour per week position that requires up to 30 hours of direct support that is scheduled well in advance (at least 24 hours before the expected start time), and up to 10 hours of direct support that can be scheduled on relatively short notice (at least two hours before the expected start time). Each week, your supervisor(s) will schedule you for 30 hours of shift coverage between the hours of 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. (For example, you might be asked to work Sunday, Monday & Tuesday from 10am-8pm.) The remaining 10 hours may be scheduled on shorter notice (at least two hours in advance) on any day or night shift. Even if you are not scheduled for all 40 hours in a given week, you will still be paid for 40 hours as long as you are ready, willing and able to work whenever asked. You may also select, with the approval of a manager, one weekday per week on which you will never be scheduled for any shifts. Please contact us for additional details.

Job Description: This position is to help support a sweet & endearing 19 year-old with developmental disabilities, serious mental illness, medical/ADL needs, & behavior challenges. Support takes place in his home and in the community. You will be working as part of highly skilled 3-person team of professional staff dedicated to improving his quality of life.
The position is overseen by Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) working under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) & a Program Director.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with autism.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid California driver’s license & clean driving record.
- Successful passage of a criminal background check.
- Prior experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, mental illness, or similar challenges is preferred but not required.
Requirements:
- Ability and willingness to support individuals with challenging behavior (including aggression, property destruction & disrobing).
- Demonstrated ability to master and implement all techniques used to safely manage behavioral challenges, including passing a company-provided Crisis Prevention Training course developed by QBS Safety-Care®, shortly after date of hire.
- Ability to assist the individual with activities of daily living, including bathing, toileting, & other self-help skills.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, read and interpret documents, write specific reports, and help problem-solve.
