Job Summary:
Participate in the development and implement methods to expand microbial testing of components, finished products, (for commercial and product inquires for quality assurance), and environmental controls. Participate in the development and execution of protocols to satisfy current compendia methodology and GMP requirements. Ensure methods and protocols meet USP and CGMP requirements within a CGMP aseptic fill manufacturing facility.
Job Scope:
This position works within the Laboratory Control System, which is one of six systems under the CGMP structure. It will work closely with quality system microbiologist and other supervisors and managers. It is a requirement for this position to understand the fundamentals of CGMP, how it is implemented and applied.
With the understanding of microbial requirements to meet or exceed GMP for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, carry out analytical activities in support of the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals by interacting with Manufacturing and Quality System. Train other laboratory technicians regarding microbiological related testing methods. Assisting in microbial monitoring, trending, testing, reporting, and analysis are critical to the ongoing operation of a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility to maintain GMP acceptance in both the immediate and long term.
Responsibilities:
· Act independently on a routine basis on routine tasks and under supervision on new assignments
· Assist in decision making of analytical method selection, equipment and instrument purchasing, method development, and validation. Prepare/review draft reports for management.
· Microbiological testing for component testing, in process testing, finished product testing, sample analysis, physical evaluation of products, environmental monitoring and control programs. Assist in investigations when needed.
· Assist in risk assessments for microbiological related CGMP activities
· Subject Matter Expert of laboratory microbiological methods, responsible for establishing and revising these documents, and training of these procedures
· Perform manufacturing classified area oversight
· Back up position for Laboratory Control Level II - III
· Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience
· BS in Biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related science discipline
· Working knowledge of scientific principles, background in microbial limits testing, environmental monitoring, microorganism identification skills, and understanding of quality and CGMP requirements
· Ability to use a computer and associated programs necessary to perform the position requirements
· Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position
