What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician/Assistant position at Novak Animal Care Center?
Novak Animal Care Center is an AAHA Accredited, fast-paced, 3 doctor small animal practice looking to add a new full-time or part-time experienced veterinary technician or assistant to our team!
The candidate we are looking for should be outgoing, positive, enthusiastic, compassionate, and possess a team-player mentality. Being an advocate for the patient is crucial and a passion for pets is a must! You'll need to be professional, trustworthy, self-starting, punctual, and possess strong communication and problem solving skills. Knowledge of AVImark software is a plus and prior experience working for a medical office as a technician/nurse or technician/nursing assistant is required.
- Assistant duties include: Patient restraint, assisting the doctor with exams, taking radio-graphs, filling prescriptions, collection and preparation of blood, urine, and feces samples for lab testing, culture, and/or microscopic examination, drawing up vaccines, and maintaining the cleanliness of exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Technician Qualifications: The technical skills we are looking for include administering anesthesia and monitoring vitals, blood draws, placing IV catheters, assisting the doctor in surgery, performing routine dental cleanings under doctor supervision, taking dental radiographs, administering IV, IM, and SQ fluids and injections according to doctor direction, caring for hospitalized patients, administering emergency first aid (CPR), and sterilizing surgical instruments and other medical equipment. Some of these skills can be taught on site, but you should have some level of basic knowledge to build on.
**Average hours per week varies from 30-40 for full-time status & 16-24 for part-time. Must be able to work weekdays and the occasional Saturday. Minimum on call commitment of 1 day/week and 1 weekend/month post 90-day training period for qualified technicians. Pay varies based on prior experience and qualifications. Generous additional compensation provided for on call duties. This position requires a significant amount of standing, heavy lifter, and moving/bending.
