What are the responsibilities and job description for the Extrusion Operator 3 position at Novalis US, LLC?
Duties and Requirements of the Job:
- Be capable of acquiring lift truck certification.
- Purge line properly.
- Turn calendar roll heats and turn pumps on and off.
- Turn the emboss and rubber roll chiller on and off.
- Turn the extruder and die on for startup heating.
- Turn on extruder heats and switch from startup heats to run temperatures.
- Turn extruder and feeder on and off.
- Adjust die flow bolts correctly.
- Clear alarms from extruder.
- Know when and how to turn vacuum pump on.
- Adjust vacuum pressure.
- Open and close sizing rolls and emboss rolls.
- Turn calendar rolls, wear layer roll, color roll, and pull roll on and off.
- Adjust roll speeds and extruder speeds for startup.
- Speed up line slowly with extruder and calendar rolls.
- Turn heater on and off.
- Adjust material thickness using the sizing rolls for quality specifications.
- Properly adjust line speeds for production run.
- Thread material through sizing rolls safely.
- Cut hole, attach strap, cool material, and pull rope for startup.
- Raise and lower wear layer application roll.
- Properly apply wear layer and print to slab material.
- Adjust wear layer and print tension controllers to prevent wrinkles.
- Adjust the lamination roll correctly to prevent or fix bubbles and wrinkles in wear layer.
- Spot visual defects and be able to root cause the problem.
- Know all PPE & Safety requirements for the area.
- Keep area clean. Remove all empty bags and pallets
- Know where all small ingredients are located and corresponding holding tank.
- Use handheld hoist control.
- Properly use bulk bag lift.
- Turn on dust vacuum before loading material in tanks.
- Verify the correct recipe and know how to apply changes to the recipe.
- Clear batches that’s been made in main scale, additives scales, and hot mixer.
- Manually open valves and know what each valve is used for.
- Manually turn on each pump and what area in the process it is used for.
- Manually turn on small ingredient augers and open valves to fill hoppers with correct weight and then pump to main scale.
- Manually pump PVC, Carbon Calcium, and Regrind to main scale.
- Manually make a batch or finish a batch that is partially made.
- Manually weigh an ingredient and put it in hot mixer.
- Must know the maximum temperature the hot mixer must reach to be able to dump in cool mixer.
- Must know the temperature that the cool mixer must reach before material is ready for the day bin.
- Manually turn on augers to remove material from the cool mixer to the day bin.
- Unclog an auger jam for small ingredients.
- Properly make purge and transfer it from cool mixer to super sacks.
- Properly clean and dispose of non-usable material.
- Turn shear machine and gantry on and off.
- Reset robot and shear machine.
- Adjust sensor on gantry for correct cut length.
- Place pallets under robot for stacking.
- Keep track of scrap slabs.
- Remove trim from gantry and where to store it.
- Add to or take away from robot stacking count.
- Keep up with finished pallets.
- Perform quality checks.
- Enter all quality information into the computer.
- Properly check the embossing depth.
- Report quality issues to operator, lead, or supervisor.
- Make pallet labels.
- Properly use the handheld mobile device to create license plates.
Training, Knowledge and Experience (May Be Required or Preferred, at the discretion of the hiring team)
- High School diploma or GED.
- Ability to cross train and perform additional duties as needed.
- External Candidates preferably will have at least 12 months of manufacturing operator experience.
- Must be legally authorized to work in US without a sponsorship now or in the future.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Must have experience extruding LVT/LVP or WPC/SPC products.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Working Conditions
- Occasionally lifts and / or carries up to 75 pounds.
- Maneuvers in, around, under and about manufacturing equipment on a regular and continuous basis.
- Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Works within a manufacturing setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals.
- All PPE must be worn as required.
