Pharmacy Technician IV - Certified
Novant Health is seeking a PRN Pharmacy Tech IV-Certified, Pharmacy Vision : The pharmacy team will deliver remarkable care that is patient-centric and purpose-driven through teamwork and joy.
The Technician serves as part of the healthcare team at Novant Health and collaborates with other team members to provide optimal care. The Technician accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures.
Basic Functions in the acute care setting may include but are not limited to :
- Filling and delivering medication orders for all age groups under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Performing non-sterile compounding and repackaging.
- Answering and screening telephone calls and referring calls to a pharmacist when appropriate.
- Processing cart fills, refills to automated dispensing machines and replenishments to emergency kits and carts.
- Demonstrating proficiency with equipment and software.
- Collecting medication histories from patients and / or compounding sterile admixtures.
- Performing additional duties that may include purchasing or validating (as eligible per educational requirement).
- Exhibiting problem solving skills, leadership characteristics and effective ownership of additional activities or duties.

Education : High School Diploma or GED, Required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, Preferred. (required for validating duties).Experience (Required) :Acute Care : A minimum of three years of prior experience required (with a minimum of two years at Novant Health) plus mastery in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (examples may include but are not limited to the following activities : medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, validating duties and / or procurement).
Outpatient Oncology : Minimum of six years of experience in any pharmacy setting with three years in sterile compounding (of IV and / or chemotherapy admixture).Specialty Pharmacy : A minimum of six years of experience in any pharmacy setting required with three years in specialty setting.Licensure / Certification (Required) :Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of Pharmacy.
PTCB or NHA Certification.PTCB or BPTS Advanced CPhT Certification.Additional Skills (required) :State Registration and / or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive / travel to multiple facilities / locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.Validating duties (NC only) : must complete initial didactic and practical training prior to initial validation. Must obtain 99.7% accuracy rate on initial validation and 99% accuracy in subsequent audits.Exhibits problem solving skills, leadership characteristics and effective ownership of additional activities or duties. Must demonstrate leadership by way of ensuring compliance, using analytics or taking ownership of key processes as defined by department or unit leader. Examples my include but are not limited to the following : coordination of orientation activities involving new hires or technician program students or 2nd year pharmacy school students; oversight of team member completion of competencies such as sterile compounding / chemo compounding / safe handling of hazardous drugs (orientation and annual); controlled substance audits (regulatory and proactive diversion); preparation of the department staffing schedule, etc.Additional Skills (preferred) : Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals.
