- Education: Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, Masters of Nurse Practitioner, or similar degree conferred by an accredited program, such as NCCPA and ARC-PA, required.
- Experience: One year of experience working in general or other surgical subspecialty, emergency/inpatient medicine or comparable experience. 3 to 5 years experience preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Current NP or PA license in appropriate state, registry required w/state medical board, current DEA registry and ACLS( not required for the in- office only NP/PA) and BLS Required.
- Additional Skills (required): Additional Skills Required: Some operating room proficiency is necessary and the candidate must be comfortable training for work in the operating room. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Proficient in the performance of clinic and bedside general surgery procedures, including but not limited to laceration repair, I&D of abscesses and wounds, misc. Vascular access and tube placements are a must. Basic orthopedic trauma procedures are also required including but not limited to fracture/dislocation reduction and casting as well as open fracture management. The candidate must be comfortable working in the clinic and surgical wards. Thorough skill in obtaining a surgical history and conducting a physical examination is a must. Must be comfortable writing complete daily progress notes, consultation notes, and writing discharge summaries. Communication skills, both verbal and written, general computer knowledge is required; ability to work independently, yet in collaboration with physicians, nurses and care team. Ability to use problem-solving, decision making, and creative thinking skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing clinical environment. Rotating day/night shifts and in-house weekend coverage
