What Are We Looking For?
Novant Health Urgent Cares is currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the administration and performance of all payroll functions for the company in accordance with current and acceptable accounting methods. Oversees and supports the time and attendance system.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data. Typically uses automated system to produce accurate and timely payroll. Uploads data from the time and attendance system into the payroll system.
- Responds to employee inquiries concerning payroll.
- Ensures accurate calculation and processing of wages, overtime, deductions, garnishments and compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
- Prepares six bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management.
- Performs various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provides General Ledger support.
- Processes wage assignments, levies, and child support.
- Assists with interim and annual audits as well as with governmental reporting.
- Prepares various reports and payroll related analysis.
- Assists in the development and documentation of payroll processing procedures.
Do You Have What It Takes?
A good candidate will bring with them:
- Associates degree with at least three (3) years of experience in payroll processing; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the payroll/HR field.
- Must be able to maintain confidential information
- Solid understanding of payroll-related laws
- Must work well in a team environment, have good interpersonal/customer service skills, and be able to communicate well with a wide variety of individuals within the organization.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to break down work effort, estimate time and manage to critical path.
- Strong organizational skills; including the ability to work in a fast paced environment with multiple tasks; strong ability and strong attention to details.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to research, interpret, and report on complex data.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
- Strong knowledge of payroll processing applications
An ideal candidate would also have:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with focus in accounting, finance and/or human resources courses
- FPC certification.
