Position Overview

The Novelis North America Bay Minette Technical team is looking for a Quality Lab Leader to be located at our new facility in Bay Minette, Alabama. This role supports the Bay Minette facility and will ensure the quality of aluminum products produced by the Bay Minette Plant by conducting laboratory tests and analyses. The Quality Lab Leader will also lead the laboratory team and ensure all laboratory processes comply with applicable standards and regulations.

 

This position will report to the Technical Manager.

 

Responsibilities

• Be a role model for safety; demonstrating behaviors that align with the Novelis Safety Absolutes and Safety Principles to build a zero-injury culture.
• Responsible for three laboratories: Finishing Lab, Chemical Lab and Metallography Lab
• Coordinate quality monitoring activities in production and development, conducting inspections in production and laboratory according to quality/process control plans.
• Participate in the investigation of causes of quality problems, providing analysis and technical reports.
• Preserve their own safety and physical and mental integrity, as well as that of all those who are full or visiting their area of expertise; use the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) mandatory for their job and guide those around them to use it.
• Preserve the environment and meet the legal environmental requirements established in other specific standards
• Prepare quantitative or qualitative reports, presentations, graphs, technical, and operational reports issuing analyses and reports on products or inputs or conditions of manufacturing processes
• Monitor and correct deviations related to expenses GMD, CAPEX, Overtime.
• Plan team development through training management, talent identification and development.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering / Technology / Administration or the like
• Experience as an ISO internal auditor
• Position requires a three to five years of quality engineering experience.
• Experience in resource / people management, laboratory environment & industrial metrology
• Must possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives.
• Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization.
• Ability to organize and prioritize feature work; must be able to lead multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail.
• Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
• Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs quickly.

Location Profile

Novelis’ newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
