Position Overview:

The Novelis Greensboro team is seeking an Operations Leader. The person in this role will report to the Greensboro Plant Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient and safe operations of the Greensboro facility to acquire maximum efficiency at the lowest possible cost, within an empowered team environment. The Operations Leader handles all phases of the business, including product quality, employee safety, equipment utilization and maintenance, cost containment, continuous improvement, culture, and team development.

Responsibilities:

Safety

• Elevate housekeeping standards to help eliminate chances for accidents.
• Ensure production employees report incidents when they occur and follow-up on repeats to find a permanent solution.
• Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions at all times.
• Promote EHS policy, participate in the EHS management system and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.
• Facilitate training of employees which is a very important function and responsibility of the position.

Customer Centricity

• Ensure employees understand and are working to better Greensboro’s scores on the Logan Scorecard.
• Develop and maintain workforce and training requirements.
• Maintain and apply, personally, and in the workforce, expertise in the technical, process, and practical aspects of the areas of responsibility.
• Collaborate in developing and implementing training plans.

Quality

• Maintain the process within detailed control limits
• Collaborate with the Process Department on areas to improve quality metrics

Operational Excellence

• Motivated to meet or exceed the operating plan
• Coordinate activities with the Leadership team to meet manufacturing objectives (safety, quality, efficiency and cost).
• Maintain the process within control limits.
• Ensure all daily activities are performed as scheduled.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of Business Systems
• Plan maintenance and electrical activities during down periods to help minimize idle time
• Innovate creative ways to minimize downtime during upset conditions.
• Make recommendations relative to new equipment, metal quality, process refinements, and operating cost reductions and participates in the introduction and development of new equipment and/or new process technology.
• Produce to the monthly Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Improve shred operations to minimize cost of ingot
• Generate and support Cost Savings Initiatives across the plant

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma
• 5 years of aluminum production experience
• Budgetary process understanding
• Inventory Control procedures and methods
• Leadership Skills - excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to connect with all levels in the organization. Interpersonal skills - Ability to resolve conflict in a direct, yet respectful manner
• Ability to coordinate and balance workload with multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
• Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Computer knowledge with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

• BA, BS or Technical Degree from an accredited college or university
• Recycling, melting, and casting of aluminum alloys

Location Profile

Novelis’ Greensboro facility is located in Greensboro Georgia. With 140 employees it is the first stand-alone used beverage can recycling facility in the company now responsible for pioneering a majority of Novelis’ recycling technologies. Residents enjoy nearby Lake Oconee which includes several golf communities. In addition, Athens Georgia – home to the University of Georgia and hundreds of cultural and sporting events each year – is a short drive away.
