Position Overview
What awaits you: Working with the local senior management at Latchford the post holder will provide support and expertise to ensure safe DC casting of a variety of alloys within the UBC and Auto Plants and lead development activity geared to casting related quality and productivity improvements. Provide support and expertise in molten metal treatment operations to ensure metal quality requirements are met and exceeded.• Provide general process technical support in areas of scrap pre-treatment, de-coating and melting.• Manage laboratory and the melt mix system for the GPP.• Lead casting recipe development in both UBC and Auto.• Lead metal cleanliness control for can-body sheet ingot production, including operating practices,• cleanliness monitoring, materials selection.• Provide technical support for fault-finding and process development for scrap pre-treatment,• melting, metal treatment and casting.• Liaise with internal (sheet ingot) and external (e.g. can-maker) customers.• SPC and process monitoring.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
How you convince us: Individuals are expected to have an engineering degree in a relevant subject with 5 years of industrial experience, preferably in a similar industry or process. In addition they should have:-• A thorough technical grounding and knowledge of quality processes and desirable previous experience of working with molten metal treatment operations.• An open communicative style with the ability to build cooperative relationships and networks at all levels of the business.• The potential to grow in the role and the capacity and leadership to eventually become a senior expert and/or manager in this area of expertise
Location Profile
The Novelis Latchford plant a suburb of Warrington Cheshire in England employs approximately 200 employees. It is one of Europe’s largest aluminium used beverage cans recycling plants and Europe’s largest closed-loop recycling operation for automotive aluminium rolled products with an annual recycling capacity of up to 195000 tonnes. The plant is an essential part of Novelis’ European production and collaborated with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to create the first closed-loop system in Europe with a dedicated railway service to efficiently deliver aluminium between Novelis and JLR’s production site in the UK.
The Latchford plant is committed to its community in supporting math and science education to local schools as well as sharing the value of safety and works with a local charitable foundation to sponsoring health. In addition Novelis UK supports the program “Every Can Counts” to actively promote can recycling across Europe.
