Position Overview
The Novelis Lincolnshire, Illinois team is seeking an Operational Excellence Leader. The purpose of this role is to co-lead with the Plant Manager, the implementation of NOS, bring insight to operational performance, find opportunities, and help to define targets and deploy them into the manufacturing unit organization, engaging efforts to translate data into actionable insights.
Core Accountabilities
- Responsible for coordinating the implementation and sustainability of Novelis Operating System (NOS) for the plant
- Develop and implement the NOS roadmap for the plant. Coordinates NOS Masterplan and deployment activities in line with Plant Steer Committee
- Support the Steering Committee and Centers of Excellence leaders
- Coach management teams to develop a zero-loss culture
- Construct and implement system audits
- Coordinate improvement methodology training
- Coordinate the loss intelligence system for the site
- Lead the education of managers and leaders on their roles in NOS and continuous improvement
- Support business objectives and the Improvement Planning Cycle (IPC), resulting in a single agenda to focus the improvement efforts for the year
- Help implement and lead the vision to achieve plant goals
- Identify and prioritize improvement opportunities
- Coordinate and/or lead improvement activities
- Lead the plant in the single operating agenda development and execution
- Work with company’s leadership to define and drive critical, organizational, and operational improvement recommendations, as well as new improvement projects
- Ensure consistent KPIs to track operational performance
- Lead the Performance Improvement activity for the plant to meet business objectives
- Assist with target setting and cascade to the asset level
- Lead the development/improvement of continuous improvement methodologies
- Monitor and report on overall progress, identifying roadblocks and creating actions to deficiencies
- Able to teach, mentor and coach others
- Develop and deliver professional training applications as required to enable employees at all levels to engage and contribute to the continuous improvement process
- Able to use data to identify and address organizational performance gaps
- Act as Culture Change Agent
- Ensure the lean manufacturing cultural process change for Operations, focused on development of the best productivity process with low cost and according to the plan
- Coach management teams to develop a continuous improvement culture, where NOS / CI is interwoven into the way we do business
- Play a key role in the local management and the cultural transformation of the site
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technical or business.
- 5 years of experience in manufacturing management
- 5 to 7 years of experience leading improvement efforts and teams (Lean, DMAIC, WCM)
- Project management experience
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
- Ability to engage all levels in the organization and influence others
- Analytical and strategic
- Proven ability to successfully manage numerous projects, while inspiring change with measurable results
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of VSM, Lean methodologies, Kaizen, DMAIC
- Strong digital literacy (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Fluent in English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in engineering, MBA in Management systems or correlated subjects
- Experience in a similar business, preferably metal industry
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Belt certification
- Experience implementing operational management system at other manufacturing companies

Location Profile
The finishing mill in Lincolnshire Illinois is located 26 miles from Chicago and was established in 1966. The facility cold rolls aluminum to a desired gauges anneals to tempers levels and slits the rolled sheet to size. The facility which employees around 100 people produces mill finish coils for the building construction and transportation industries where its’ products are used for gutters siding soffits and facia.
