Responsibilities & Qualifications
Position Overview:
The Novelis corporate Environmental team is seeking an intern to support its daily functions. The person in this role will support and report to the Environmental Remediation Manager and provide assistance to other environmental professions within the Novelis corporate team and plants. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing environmental reports, environmental sampling oversight, permit reporting, laboratory data quality assurance reviews, and other tasks to support the corporate environmental team. This position will help the candidate gain valuable experience in a corporate business setting where environmental compliance is key to achieving the organization’s sustainability goals.
Responsibilities:
- Support and successfully complete tasks assigned by environmental staff on the corporate team
- Build knowledge within the environmental field by performing a variety of hands-on sampling, data review and reporting tasks
- Review environmental regulations and provide feedback on compliance obligations
- Participate with and help prepare for routine environmental reports
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly and annual environmental spending budgets
- Support environmental assessments, studies, and surveys
- Support the pursuit of federal and state permits
- Perform routine, investigative and compliance sampling
- Review and evaluate laboratory analytical data for consistency with environmental laws, regulations and policies
- Prepare and/or update inspection and investigative checklists, perform inspections and write brief narrative reports in support of regulatory requirements
- Prepare and comply with site safety plans, task hazard analyses, and safety mitigation actions
- Review and analyze detailed laboratory analytical repots and complete quality assurance reviews
- Assist with providing written and/or verbal communication on environmental technical issues such as regulatory requirements, risk exceedance levels, and environmental risks to the corporation and regulated community
- Provide administrative assistance and support with all aspects of the corporate environmental program
- Comply with corporate safety standards
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current university student completing an environmentally related degree such as Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or other environmentally-focused topic(s).
- Working application of Microsoft suite of Office applications: word, excel, powerpoint, etc.
- Ability to travel to environmental site and plant locations will be required.
