The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking a L2 Automation Engineer to work in the Bay Minette facility. This facility will have cast house, rolling, and finishing areas within the fully integrated aluminum mill. The position will play a crucial role in enhancing safety, solving technical problems, and leading project teams. This position requires collaboration with site, regional, and global teams to implement innovative solutions and support the introduction of Industry 4.0.

Responsibilities

- Recognize and prevent safety issues, actively engage in broader regional or global EHS initiatives, and participate in the development of standards for EHS initiatives
- Partner with site, regional, and global teams to collect project requirements and translate feedback into project team actions.
- Identify and address customer or operational problems, propose solutions, lead project teams to solve the problems, ensure alignment across geographies or operating areas, and report findings.
- Manage interpersonal dynamics in project groups/teams to ensure project team meets assigned commitments and influence site decision-making by presenting technical information related to Automation Level 2 Systems
- Possess high-level knowledge of site Utilities, Recycling and Remelt, Rolling to Finishing processes/applications, and assess the viability of technologies, processes, or methods to recommend broadly implemented solutions.
- Support Industry 4.0 and act as a liaison between Shop Floor, MES, and Global Information Technology groups
- Innovate and develop new techniques and best processes by enabling effective utilization of data applied to upper-level systems (MES and Level 3 Supply Chain)
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to tackle problems from multiple dimensions and drive them towards customer-centric solutions
- Maintain technical contacts, translate complex data for teams, compile reports, identify training needs, and implement knowledge transfer initiatives
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Engineering or a four (4) year degree in a related technical field (STEM).
- 7 years of progressive experience in programming languages (preferred C#, PowerShell).
- Solid understanding of relational database query language (preferred Microsoft SQL) and interface systems.
- Experience in the implementation and support of systems integration (automation systems) and communication methods standardization (telegrams and middleware).
- Knowledge of Historians (preferably iba and/or OSISoft-PI)
- Experience in the Metals Rolling/Fabrication Industry.
- Knowledge of MES systems.
- Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems configuration
- Experience in using continuous integration and development. (Azure DevOps, Git)
- Frequent standing, walking and sitting
- Occasional below waist level work, climbing, balancing, carrying, reaching over 15” away from the body, reaching above shoulder, fine motor skills, use of forceful motion
- Occasional push/pull, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability and willingness to work at heights
