Novelis – Bay Minette, AL is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer for our new Rolling Facility in Bay Minette Alabama. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for handling all aspects of the Mechanical Engineering function, such as design, construction, and installation of original equipment and equipment modifications. With the opportunity to work with every type of machinery that you can imagine, you will analyze, recommend and help implement preventive maintenance replacement programs and provide value analysis engineering, as well as training a new group of Maintenance professionals, while driving the continuous improvement of the plant.

Responsibilities
- Promote EHS policy to ensure that Novelis EHS Standards are met within the functional role; establish and implement policies and practices required to provide safe equipment, a safe working environment and safe work practices.
- Improve & maintain equipment covering all phases of heavy industrial plant engineering, typical of the metals industry.
- Provide a strong mechanical understanding of process, civil and electrical components involved in their equipment.
- Solve encounters that center around meeting production needs in the face of tight, frequently revised schedules and/or equipment failures, the start-up of new equipment, development of new products and processes.
- Optimize equipment utilization and efficiency by applying the latest development in machine procedures, diagnostic equipment, and more reliable electrical components.
- Develop practical solutions to repetitive equipment failure problems that contribute to the effectiveness of the maintenance effort.
- Contribute engineering expertise to project work and selection of replacement or new equipment to help ensure consistency and standardization of components and ease of maintenance.
- Ensure all equipment recommended, repaired, or modified meet all company and governmental safety and health rules and regulations
- Assist in the development of engineering or maintenance procedures and repair work to ensure they are safe, effective, and efficient.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of a Quality System by serving as a resource to Operating Teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering technology from an accredited university.
- Experience in Aluminum, Steel or other Heavy Manufacturing preferred.
- Strong technical and process leadership skills are required in this position, with ability to work multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills including solving problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved.
- Ability to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered.
- Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.
- Willingness to travel for training and meetings as needed.
- Experience using a variety of computer programs and willing to learn new computer skills quickly.
- Ability to empower and engage a diverse team by demonstrating our Cultural Beliefs in all activities.
