Job Summary:
Works closely with patients, in conjunction with nurses and doctors. Responsible for cleaning and general maintenance of the clinical area. Duties include assisting in examination and treatment of patients, taking vital signs, recording information, and maintaining patient rooms in the pre-operative and post-operative area. Various other tasks may be assigned to promote a clean and productive environment for patients, their families and fellow employees.
General Requirements:
Employee will adhere to dress code, appearance is always neat and clean
Employee will complete successfully all annual education requirements
Employee will maintain all professional/regulatory requirements
Employee will always maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Employee will report to work on time and as scheduled, and will complete work within the designated time
Employee will wear identification while on duty
Employee will use computerized punch time system correctly
Employee will make best efforts to attend all staff meetings
Employee will represent Novi Surgery Center in a positive and professional manner
Employee will participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement activities
Employee will comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
Employee will communicate the mission, ethics and goals of Novi Surgery Center
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Employee should possess knowledge and the ability to perform duties in accordance with established standards for practices set forth in the center’s policies
Employee will adhere to strict Universal Precautions and Blood Borne Pathogens protocol
Employee will communicate with the PreOp/PACU or Operating Room Nurse Manager in planning, implementing, and evaluating their daily duties.
Employee will identify the need to evaluate and revise policies and procedures as they affect patient care and/or the proper functioning of the unit with their supervisor.
Employee must utilize work time effectively
Employee will assist in operating room turnovers
Employee will assist in putting away supply orders and stocking supply/operating rooms
Employee will assist with supply outdates
Employee will perform point of care testing
Employee may cross train on:
Use of C-arm
Front desk reception
Employee duties and tasks may be changed at the discretion of the Novi Surgery Center
Employees are expected to complete basic assignments within a given timeframe and with minimal supervision
Employee must have good knowledge of location of equipment and supplies
Employee must keep all areas of the workspace clean and tidy
Employee will be asked to clean and disinfect all furniture and equipment
Employee may need to clean bodily fluids (such as blood, urine, or irrigation fluids etc.) from any effected surfaces
Employee will restock blanket warmers
Employee will restock linens and gowns in designated areas
Employee will assist patients with urinals, bedpans, and emesis basins as needed
Employee will assist in transporting patients between areas, and should understand the importance of assisting patients carefully, using wheelchairs and stretchers when appropriate
Employee will perform general delivery service for the surgery center and run errands as needed
Employee will check sharps containers throughout building and empty and replace as needed
Employee will participate in the Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of safety, infection control, adherence to guidelines for cleaning and decontamination of the center, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and OSHA standards and risk management
Employee will need to demonstrate competency in performing tasks and in operating equipment on a regular basis
Employee will regularly attend staff meetings and in-services
Professional/Regulatory Requirements:
Completion of a High School Diploma or GED required
Highly developed organizational skills
Current BLS certification (or within six months of hiring)
Minimum of two years of work experience determined relevant by PreOp/PACU Nurse Manager
Language Skills:
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Other Skills:
Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills in order to facilitate effective interaction with a variety of health care professionals, payors, patients, and Novi Surgery Center personnel.
Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize work efficiently to achieve Novi Surgery Center goals.
Possess and employ excellent phone and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to repeat frequent tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, handling, reaching, and twisting.
Requires mobility including walking, standing, bending, and sitting.
