Authority, Scope and Basic Function
To handle all engineering matters as they relate to assigned projects. Responsible to provide technical services for projects including code analysis, structural analysis, design and calculations, coordination of all structure and cladding details, facilitation of engineering stamp and obtaining approvals from the client. Ensure all engineering services are on time and use the allotted material quantities and within budget
Essential Duties and Principal Responsibilities
- Receive new projects from Sales and first produce a comparative take off study versus the estimate of summary of the materials to be used and the technical time allotted. Follow up with Sales with appropriate questions for any clarification before proceeding with design.
- Develop structural schemes and cladding details according to the contractual obligations, architectural intent, budget and time schedules. Suggest value engineered ideas to Project Manager to establish if team can reduce costs.
- Manage the detailers to keep design and materials use in budget and function. Do not compromise safety but ensure efficient design.
- Plan and oversee shop and fabrication drawings and calculation books. Before submittal and release to production, check all aspects of drawings including physical fit and structural integrity.
- Perform any necessary calculations in justifying member sizes and connection details and to produce calculation booklet for submittal to client.
- Facilitate the review of calculations and drawings with Engineering Consultant in obtaining a sealed stamped set for the region where project is located.
- External coordination with architects, consultants, subcontractors and contractors allowing them to plan and organize their work, creating schedules and communications with others; to obtain approval of the drawings and calculations
Qualifications / Requirements
- Engineering degree (Civil, Mechanical or Architectural) with a structural emphasis.
- One (1) to five (5) years of applicable experience designing steel structures.
- Experience in Structural Analysis using finite element method of analysis.
- Use of basic computer tools and software (Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, etc.); experience with STAAD, RSTAB, ANSYS or similar essential.
