Associate Attorney Workers' Compensation

The Client:
A well-established insurance defense firm is seeking an Associate Attorney with experience in workers compensation litigation to advocate on behalf of insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers. The firm provides a collaborative and dynamic environment for legal professionals looking to develop their litigation skills.
Description:
The Associate Attorney will manage a caseload of workers compensation defense files, including court appearances, depositions, cross-examinations of medical experts, and settlement negotiations. The role requires strong case management, legal research, and client advocacy skills.
This position offers growth opportunities, including mentorship of legal assistants, participation in client training seminars, and the ability to develop strategic relationships with clients and vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocate on behalf of insurance carriers, TPAs, and self-insured employers
- Draft pleadings and legal correspondence
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and cross-examinations of medical professionals
- Negotiate settlements and lien claims
- Manage case deadlines, including client correspondence and litigation schedules
- Mentor and manage legal assistants
- Establish relationships with clients, colleagues, and vendors
- Conduct client training seminars on evolving workers' compensation laws
- Stay up to date on workers' compensation case law and regulations
- Enter case information into PracticeMaster or similar case management software
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Active California Bar license
- Experience in workers compensation defense litigation
- Strong negotiation, litigation, and legal research skills
- Ability to handle depositions, cross-examinations, and court appearances independently
- Exceptional organizational skills and case management proficiency
- Preferred:
- Experience with PracticeMaster or similar case management software
- Background in client training and seminar presentations
- Prior experience mentoring or managing legal staff
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base Salary: $110,000 - $145,000 (DOE)
