Position Description
The Laser Operator II is responsible for operating and maintaining laser machinery for cutting, drilling, and engraving various materials. The Laser Operator II also assists the Programmers with programming the lasers when needed.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate laser machinery according to the specifications provided.
- Create high-quality laser-cut designs and products safely and efficiently.
- Inspect and maintain laser machines to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Performs daily/weekly/monthly preventive maintenance on machines.
- Adjust machine settings to improve the quality and efficiency of the production process.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues that arise with laser machinery.
- 7S, keep the work area clean and organized.
- Work within all safety guidelines.
- Obeying all company, OSHA, and other state and federal agencies’ safety regulations.
- Cross-train on various machines.
- Misc. projects and prototyping.
- Completing all duties as assigned, while making the most efficient use of time, raw materials, and equipment.
- Read and comprehend Shop drawings/blueprints.
- Ability to work 40-50 hour work weeks, dependent on production needs.
- Work as a team and communicate effectively with management and all employees.
Requirements:
- Ability to discern between the following types of materials:
- Carbon Hot Rolled Steel/Cold Rolled Steel
- Aluminum
- Stainless Steels
- Ability to work individually with little supervision.
- LEAN manufacturing understanding and knowledge.
- Proficient in operating a forklift.
- Ability to read measuring tools including protractor and caliper, and scanning instruments preferred.
- Capable of reading blueprints.
- Comfortable with power tools and manual tools.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED & additional equipment certification training is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years CNC laser experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years previous experience in a metal fabrication shop working with similar equipment and materials preferred.
- 1 years of experience with laser programming.
- Mechanically inclined, with attention to detail, and ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.
- 1 years of forklift experience.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Manufacturing environment with intermittent noise and long periods of standing in a warehouse-type physical space, with exposure to noise and dust in hot and cold climates.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, and kneel.
- Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and normal hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).
- Must have good hand and eye coordination.
- Must wear steel-toed shoes.
