What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler (Tues - Fri, 5:00AM - 3:30PM) position at NPSG Global?
The Racking & Material Handler assists in the masking, prepping, hanging, packaging, and removal of parts. This position moves material throughout the Powder department to the different work centers as needed. This position will also be the backup for the main sandblaster and powder coater. In addition, this position must work in a collaborative, supportive, and fast-moving manufacturing environment where safety and quality are of the highest priority.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Powder Lead and Powder Supervisor in daily operations pertaining to powder coating department.
- Assist in masking, hanging, and removal of parts.
- Assist in packaging and transfer of finished goods to the Assembly or Shipping & Receiving Department.
- Operate a forklift moving heavy metal throughout departments, as needed.
- Keep the work area clean and orderly, and that any unsafe working conditions are corrected or reported immediately.
- Maintains the 7S method in the department.
- Must follow all NPSG policies and procedures including, safety, housekeeping, attendance, quality, and administration.
- Ability to work 40-50 hour work weeks, dependent on production needs.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities – Specific to Powder Coating:
- Performs skilled powder coating utilizing common standards and practices. Able to deliver quality final products consistently and efficiently according to order requirements.
- Reads and interprets work orders and directives and consistently delivers quality work in response to technical orders.
- Prep parts for painting by pre-racking, plugging, sanding, and masking.
- Visually inspects completed work to determine compliance with standards. Make appropriate corrections.
- Powder coating system setup and maintenance: cleaning of system components, paint booths, and spray guns.
- Documents powder coating process for consistency of thickness, color, and appearance.
Responsibilities – Specific to Sand Blasting:
- Before the abrading action, the sandblaster protects specific areas of the work surface using masking film, tape, and rubber.
- Responsible for lifting, carrying, and setting up heavy equipment and parts onto racks, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
- Preparing parts for the paint shop, steam cleaning motors and chassis, and other general labor may be included in the sandblaster’s job duties.
- Maintenance of the sandblasting equipment, such as cleaning and changing nozzles to prevent accidents.
Requirements:
- Demonstrating Powder related knowledge of:
- Prepping parts.
- Packaging parts.
- Powdering parts.
- Sandblasting parts.
- Ability to accurately calculate measurements using basic math functions and tools, including fractions, decimals, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to effectively and accurately utilize common measurement tools like tape measures (imperial and metric) and calipers.
- Positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a team environment as a self-motivated, collaborative team player, with minimal supervision.
- Adherence to all company, warehouse, and safety standards and policies.
- Must be able to work at least 40-50 hours per week.
- Must be able to use hand and power tools.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Powder certifications preferred.
- 1 years of Powder Coating experience.
- 1 years of Sand Blasting experience.
- Minimum of 1-3 years previous experience in a metal fabrication shop working with similar equipment and materials preferred.
- Possess basic computer knowledge.
- 1 year of forklift experience.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Manufacturing environment with intermittent noise and long periods of standing in a warehouse-type physical space, with exposure to noise and dust in hot and cold climates.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, and kneel.
- Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and normal hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).
- Must have good hand and eye coordination.
- Must wear steel-toed shoes.
