What are the responsibilities and job description for the Curriculum Coordinator position at NRA?
LOCATION: Onsite, Fairfax VA
SUMMARY: Update, design and develop curriculum content, training materials, training modules, teaching aids, and manage curriculum for Education & Training, as well as assist other General Operations divisions as appropriate. Experience as an NRA Certified trainer preferred. Knowledge of and support for the mission of the National Rifle Association required.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate, develop, and/or revise web content and functions in support of NRA trainers as well as course outlines, lesson plans, handbooks, and video scripts for NRA’s basic firearm training programs within departmental guidelines as well as support curriculum updates for all other programs and initiatives throughout General Operations as needed.
- Provide technical support for projects related to the use of emerging technology to support the Basic Firearm Training program.
- Coordinate with NRA Media staff for regular NRA Training Newsletter email blasts, and other educational publications and communications in General Operations as needed.
- Actively involve staff in evaluating and selecting materials to meet student learning needs. Work collaboratively across divisional areas to manage and coordinate new program/course launches as needed.
- Manage and conduct quality assurance reviews of all General Operations program materials with appropriate managers in a timely manner.
- Establish, within divisional guidelines, a process to review and include feedback from end of course surveys and student evaluations into the quality assurance and course maintenance process. Utilize data obtained to make recommendations for how to improve and edit curricula on an annual basis.
- Actively pursue opportunities to continue to learn best practices in curriculum writing through research, professional development and other learning opportunities.
- Coordinate, as directed, with outside vendors and contractors in the development and implementation of courses and instructional materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SCOPE: High visibility with all divisions and staff throughout General Operations, vendors and contractors. Position functions in a fast-paced work environment with minimal direct supervision. Occasional local and national travel required. Occasional overtime work required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: B.A. or B.S. degree in education required. Equivalent experience or demonstrated skills may be considered in lieu of degree. Experience leading, coaching or training individuals essential.
A strong shooting sports background with experience teaching firearm safety and basic marksmanship required. Expert knowledge of firearms and their operation required. Certification as an NRA Certified Instructor in one or more disciplines required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Knowledge and experience developing curriculum and planning lessons highly desirable. Comprehensive knowledge of current instructional theories and principles applicable to both online and instructor-lead learning programs required. Strong working knowledge and ability to use Microsoft® Office programs, especially PowerPoint®. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Demonstrated analytical skills required. Ability to communicate through verbal and written means with individuals in small groups and in front of large audiences at all levels of the organization essential. Requires strong multi-tasking skills, coupled with ability to work well under pressure and respond positively to deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a member of a team essential. Team player with positive attitude, and dedication to collaboration essential. Ability to interface effectively with all levels of staff required.
