CIVIL ENGINEER JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY : The Civil Engineer plays a critical role in the development of solar farms by overseeing site design and engineering, which includes grading, utilities, pavement, circulation, and stormwater management. The Civil Engineer will analyze site specific considerations to assist in the efficient design of solar projects to maximize energy production while collaborating with both internal teams and external partners throughout the process. The Civil Engineer ensures the design, analysis, and management of solar installations meet industry standards and stormwater regulations. Additionally, they work with multidisciplinary teams to assess site feasibility, contribute to project planning, and implement innovative solutions that enhance the efficiency of solar energy systems.

Pay Range : $130,000-$180,000 (Pay information will vary depending upon relevant experience for the position)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Regulatory Compliance and Permitting : (Collaborate with Development) 25%
Create and implement a set of civil design standards that will be utilized by internal team members and outside partners to ensure efficient designs.Collaborate with the development department to ensure civil design plans comply with the Uniform Building and Fire Prevention Code and local design standards.Attend civil kickoff and design calls with the development team to provide design guidance throughout the development and approval process.Review SWPPP design to ensure that projects are designed in conformance with DEC regulations while also minimizing the potential cost and constructability concerns of stormwater control features.Ensure that utility interconnections are designed in conformance with the NYS Standardized Interconnection Requirements as well as any requirements that are unique to specific utilities.Coordinate with the utilities to determine what easements will be required based on the project design and assist in the creation of engineering exhibits.Analyze site specific considerations to assist in the efficient design of solar projects to maximize energy production.Engineering Design and Analysis : (Technical Civil Engineering Work) 15%
Conduct engineering design and design reviews for renewable energy projects and other civil engineering projects.Perform grading analyses, stormwater management plans, and site layout.Utilize AutoCAD and other engineering software for design tasks.Review, interpret, and communicate the engineering perspective regarding surveys, engineering reports, and technical specifications, to the broader team.Design or review stormwater management systems, utility systems, and erosion control plans.Forecasting & communicating to the design timelines with outside engineers.Technical Skills and Analysis : (Technical Civil Engineering Work) 20%
Conduct site investigations and due diligence.Perform stormwater management calculations and hydraulic analysis.Analyze earthwork, utility conflicts, and site safety.Review and analyze technical reports, including geotechnical and environmental assessments, and provide reports to the broader team regarding the implications these assessments have on the civil design of the projects.Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior staff.Project Management and Coordination : (Collaborate with Project Managers & EPC) 25%
Assist project managers with relevant civil engineering tasks as needed from beginning to end, including construction oversight.Collaborate with project managers regarding project objectives, schedules, and budgets and how the engineering part of the project will influence the objectives, schedules, and budgetsCoordinate with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and utility companies.Attend meetings, review project proposals, and prepare project documentation.Review bids & bid scopes, prepare analysis of bids for budget or buy-out purposes.Communication and Client Interaction : 15%
Communicate with vendors, project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.Prepare reports, proposals, and presentations.Conduct vendor and stakeholder meetings and presentations.Interact with coworkers, regulatory agencies, and external partners effectively.Document project progress, updates, and outcomes accurately.KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EDUCATION :
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil EngineeringLicensed Professional Engineer (PE)5 years in civil engineering, including stormwater design, and proficiency in AutoCAD (Civil3D) software.Demonstrated ability to independently and collaboratively deliver completed projects within a dynamic team environment in an open plan office setting.Substantial experience as a Civil Project Manager with emphasis on site development and design, including grading, utilities, pavement, circulation, stormwater management, and ADA requirements.Displays industry knowledge and adapts to changing standards, codes, and specifications.Strong organizational, time management, leadership, and teamwork skills, coupled with excellent interpersonal and communication abilities to facilitate effecting decision-making, problem-solving, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Valid NYS Driver’s License.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE :
At least five years of environmental, civil, and / or land use legal experience required.
Experience with renewable energy permitting preferred.
