Job Description
As a Technician II for Materials in the Engineering/Plastics lab, you will be responsible for molding and machining plastic samples using injection molding, compression molding, two roll mill, and CNC machines. You will also perform basic testing on plastics, pipes, fittings and other related plumbing products to specific standards and procedures.

Responsibilities
- Perform basic laboratory work with minimal supervision after each training is completed
- Maintaining/organizing assigned workload and meet specific due dates
- Prepare and record all data per ISO 17025
- Review SOPs as necessary
- Monitor assigned lab equipment for calibrations and other lab needs
- Receive continuous trainings
- Cross-train in other lab areas to alleviate the workload when high sample volumes are experienced.
- Maintain a clean work environment and 6s areas
- Assure adherence to all safety and health policies and procedures
- Assist senior staff with ongoing projects as needed
- Perform other duties as requested
- High school diploma/GED required
- Ability to read, understand and follow standards, SOP’s and test methods
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated in completing assignments correctly and on schedule
- Great attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of PC/Windows software and Microsoft Office Suites (Excel, Word)
- Understanding of plastic fabrication methods (injection molding, compression molding, two roll mill, and CNC machines)
- Organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work well independently and in a team environment
- Bachelor or Associate degree in an Engineering, Materials Science, or a Scientific discipline
- Experience with injection molding of plastics (PVC, ABS, etc)
- Experience with two roll mills and compression molding
- Experience with CNC milling
- Laboratory experience and/or college level laboratory coursework
- Experience in testing using standard or methods
- Experience with Materials Testing
- Understanding laboratory instruments (Load Frame, balances, calipers, micrometers)
- Knowledgeable with laboratory QA/QC programs
- Understanding of chemicals and proper mixing techniques
- Experience in Quality Control testing
- Understanding and experience using laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- Familiarity with Plastic Material behaviors
- Scientific aptitude
- Light to heavy physical effort required
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Standing for long periods of time is necessary - ~90% lab work 10% desk work
- Safety glasses and steel toes must always be worn in lab areas
- Proper PPE (gloves, hard hats, face shields) needed during specific testing
