POSITION SUMMARY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across all departments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of site-specific safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Monitor and maintain environmental compliance, including waste management, water discharge, air emissions, and spill prevention measures.
- Monitor and enforce PPE use for employees handling raw meat, sharp equipment, chemicals, and hazardous areas.
- Assist in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and reporting; assist in tracking corrective actions and follow-up.
- Coordinate waste disposal and recycling programs, including hazardous waste handling, in compliance with environmental standards.
- Maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure proper chemical storage and labeling.
- Conduct employee training on safety and environmental topics such as PPE, emergency response, lockout/tagout, confined space entry, chemical handling and more.
- Monitor and report on key safety and environmental metrics; maintain accurate documentation for inspections, incidents, and regulatory submissions.
- Participate in safety committee meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain records and documentation for environmental permits, inspections, and agency reporting.
- Assist with emergency preparedness, including updating response plans, ammonia refrigeration safety programs (PSM/RMP requirements) and participating in drills.
- Assist with regulatory agency inspections and audits (e.g., OSHA, EPA, local health department).
- Serve as a resource for line supervisors and team leads in addressing safety and environmental concerns.
- Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to ensure proper functioning of safety equipment and systems (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, spill kits).
- Occasional evenings or weekends for audits or training.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)
- High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent
- Successful Completion of OSHA 10-hour General Industry Certification, Equivalent or Higher Designation/Education
- 1-2 years Safety Experience or related discipline required.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with safety management systems a plus.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English with strong verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to have a full range of body motion including twisting, bending, reaching outward, pushing, pulling, intensive hand/wrist movement and lifting to meet the NSP minimum required pounds per day which is up to 50 pounds (unassisted). The employee must be able to walk and stand for a significant amount of time on even concrete surfaces, which may at times be slippery due to marinades, water, and other liquids associated with the production process.
Due to noise levels in the work environment, the use of hearing protection is required. The employee must have good, corrected vision to see details at close range or at a distance. The employee will be working in a climate-controlled environment of -40ºF to -45ºF. The employee may be exposed to strong odors such as raw meat and marinades from seasoned meat.
While in the production area, employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hair and beard nets, rubber soled shoes, smocks, hearing protection and hard hats.
