A day in the life of a Network Specialist II at NTH

  • Manage and implement IT protocols.
  • Oversee network address assignments.
  • Coordinate service calls to vendors.
  • Keep licenses up to date and paid.
  • IT inventory.
  • Provide product user support.
  • Proper disposal of equipment.
  • IT purchases when needed such as hardware and software.
  • Evaluate and recommend additional software/hardware purchases as needed.
  • Install, monitor, evaluate, update and back up all software/hardware.
  • Maintain switches.
  • Maintain and optimize network and file servers.
  • Monitor and test network for weakness.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PCs, printers, servers, and network.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software, and installing patches from bulletin boards to servers via intranet.
  • Support WAN and external communications.
  • Recommend and implement system updates.
  • Install and implement security programs.
  • Recommend additional software/hardware purchases as needed.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or related discipline. Associates degree and relevant experience may be considered. MCSE preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a desktop / server support role configuring and troubleshooting Windows operating systems.
  • Proficient with hardware and software installation and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding TCP/IP, network cabling and switches mandatory.
  • Understanding of ODBC connections, a plus.
  • Knowledge of routers and developing Intranet Web pages a plus.
  • BST accounting software and some experience with SQL server (installation and running queries).
  • CAD support experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of SharePoint (SharePoint Designer, InfoPath, HTML CSS, security permissions, etc.) a plus.
  • Knowledge of security issues - able to assist in the absence of the info security staff.
  • Experience utilizing:
  • Novell Netware 6.x, Windows 2008 and 2012 Servers
  • Checkpoint Firewall
  • Appassure server backup and recovery software
  • Windows System Center and Hyper V virtualization
  • Barracuda Web Filter
  • Microsoft Exchange (2010 and above)
  • Eset Antivirus
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be able to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrated team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Service focused - willing to troubleshoot and assist staff with IT related issues.
  • Exceptional time management skills, ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time, and have ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to prepare detailed written instructions and documentation.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance and be willing to travel to other NTH office locations.
  • Lift and maneuver computer equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.
