Lead Job Summary:
The Lead will assist the Foreman to oversee the production, quality, and safety of their crew members, specifically in projects involving Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) for Outside Plant (OSP) construction.
Job Duties:
- Accountable for the safety, quality, schedule, and cost on assigned projects, particularly those involving HDD operations.
- Responsible for assuring availability of resources with proper expertise and tools, including HDD equipment, to support assigned project execution.
- Must have the ability to read and understand customer-provided prints and determine required tasks, including identifying optimal HDD drilling paths and techniques.
- Serves as the main point of contact between the Foreman and crew members, coordinating HDD activities and ensuring proper communication.
- Responsible for managing 6-12 crew members on a day-to-day basis, with a focus on safely operating HDD equipment and managing HDD-related tasks.
- Reports project status and performance data, including HDD progress and equipment usage, as required to management.
- Inspect completed work to ensure that all tasks, particularly those involving HDD, were performed to company/customer standards.
- Prepare closeout documentation for each phase of the job as completed, including details on HDD bore logs and equipment maintenance.
- Efficiently plan and schedule all work activities, ensuring proper time allocation for HDD setup, drilling, and bore path verification.
- Utilize all crew members and equipment assigned to you, maximizing efficiency in HDD operations.
- Responsible for meeting scheduled completion dates, especially in HDD-related tasks where precision and safety are critical.
- Hold daily meetings before beginning work to review HDD procedures, safety protocols, and project goals.
- Take pictures of all phases of the job completed, including HDD entry and exit points, bore paths, and any potential obstacles encountered.
- Maintain company-issued equipment, including but not limited to vehicles, trailers, HDD rigs, and testing equipment, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
Experience and Education:
- 3 years of experience in the Telecommunications industry with related experience in construction, fiber installation, and HDD operations.
Competencies / Skills:
- Ability to pass a drug screening.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Strong written and oral communication is required, particularly for documenting HDD processes and coordinating with team members.
- Must have Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as well as having a strong work ethic.
