Description
Analyzes specifications to make or repair metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges by utilizing manual and CNC machine tools. Must be able to visualize and apply knowledge of tool and die design and construction, shop mathematics, metal properties and assembly procedures to perform duties.
Job Functions:
· Works from specifications, such as CAD drawings, prints, sketches, models, descriptions or CAM software to determine best choice of materials and equipment for fabrication of parts.
· Computes dimensions and plans layouts to determines assembly and sequence of operations.
· Designs basic stamping dies, as well as, fixtures, jigs or gauges to aid in the fabrication or assembly of parts.
· Sets up and operates manual or CNC machine tools including lathes, wire EDM, milling machines and grinders to machine parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes and verifies conformance to specifications.
· Fits and assembles jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies to provide conformance to product needs.
· Sets up, runs and tests stamping dies to ensure product meets specifications and to identify any issues to correct them.
· Coordinates activities with Engineering and Production to refine tooling and production processes for continuous improvement.
· Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
· Follows all safety procedures and wears safety equipment or apparel as required.
· Performs all job functions to meet acceptable quality and performance standards.
· Ensures on a daily basis that the work area is clean and orderly including machines, tooling and workstation.
Requirements
· Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker or Machinist in metal fabrication industry
· Detail orientated with ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet schedule deadlines
· Ability to read prints with strong shop mathematics
· Experience with applying quality control analysis
· Excellent attention to detail with ability to visualize structural components
· Advanced troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications:
· Working knowledge of Mastercam and Solidworks
· Experience with Wire EDM
· Bilingual in Spanish
Physical Requirements:
· Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 25 pounds of force frequently
· Frequently required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms
· Ability to communicate with others and accommodation as required
· Accommodation as required for reading documents, prints, computer screens, machine dials and inspection instruments
Working Conditions:
Typical metal manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coat paint facility. Active work that primarily involves walking, standing, bending and lifting.
