Position Title: Dining Director

Position Summary:
The Dining Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of food preparation and kitchen operations within the assisted living community. This includes menu planning, food ordering, meal preparation, sanitation, and ensuring meals meet nutritional and dietary requirements for senior residents. This position plays a critical role in promoting a positive dining experience and upholding health and safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals that meet residents' dietary needs and preferences.
- Plan weekly menus in accordance with resident preferences, physician orders, and regulatory requirements (DHS 83/DHS 89 if applicable).
- Order, receive, and inventory food and kitchen supplies to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations.
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices in compliance with state and local health codes.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen and dining areas.
- Supervise and train dietary staff (if applicable); oversee scheduling and delegation of kitchen duties.
- Collaborate with nursing and caregiving staff to adjust meals for special dietary needs (e.g., pureed, low sodium, diabetic, mechanical soft, etc.).
- Maintain documentation of food temperatures, sanitation logs, and inventory.
- Support community-wide events and coordinate special meals or holiday celebrations as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary training or certification preferred.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in food preparation, preferably in a healthcare, senior living, or hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of special diets, senior nutrition, and texture-modified foods preferred.
- ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours including some weekends and holidays.
- Commitment to maintaining a positive, respectful, and resident-centered dining atmosphere.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and perform repetitive kitchen tasks.
- Must be able to bend, reach, and move within a commercial kitchen environment.
- Occasional exposure to hot surfaces, kitchen equipment, and cleaning chemicals.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced kitchen setting within a senior living community.
- Interaction with residents, staff, and regulatory inspectors.
- Must follow infection control and sanitation standards at all times.
