Job Summary:
Our Dining Services person(s) are responsible for preparing and serving high-quality, nutritious meals for residents in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual preferences. This role ensures the kitchen operates efficiently and complies with food safety and sanitation regulations. This position will also play a key role in fostering a welcoming dining environment that enhances residents' quality of life. Experience working in a senior living environment is a plus.
Key Responsibilities: Meal Preparation & Cooking:
- Plan, prepare, and cook meals for residents according to menus, dietary requirements, and individual preferences.
- Create and adjust recipes to ensure nutritional balance and compliance with planned menus and resident centered diets.
- Prepare meals that meet texture-modified diets (e.g., pureed, mechanical soft) as needed.
Kitchen Operations:
- Oversee daily kitchen activities, including food prep, cooking, plating, and cleanup.
- Maintain inventory of food and kitchen supplies; place orders as needed.
- Weekly ordering of food and supplies as needed
- Minimize waste through effective portion control and inventory management.
- Ensure timely delivery of meals to residents, adhering to the meal schedule.
Food Safety & Sanitation:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper food storage, labeling, and cleaning practices.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Keep detailed records of food temperatures and safety checks.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Provide guidance and direction to kitchen assistants and support staff.
- Collaborate with caregivers and dietary staff to accommodate special dietary needs and resident requests.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to improving dining services.
Resident Interaction:
- Foster a positive dining experience by being responsive to resident feedback and concerns.
- Occasionally engage with residents to learn more about their preferences and dining satisfaction.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary experience is helpful.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a chef, preferably in healthcare or assisted living.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong culinary skills, including knowledge of various cooking techniques and menu planning.
- Familiarity with special diets (e.g., low-sodium, diabetic, texture-modified).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Leadership ability to train and oversee kitchen staff.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Certifications:
- ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification required (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-temperature kitchen environment.
