Basic Job Functions: The Maintenance Mechanic’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, taking care of our customers by executing the division's safety, quality, cost, and productivity and profitability objectives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preventative, routine, and breakdown maintenance of all equipment related to the safe and efficient production of steel products. While working independently, as well as a part of a team, a successful candidate will work to maximize equipment uptime and availability. The Shift Mechanic is expected to work a flexible schedule, including scheduled and unscheduled overtime, rotating shifts, and weekends. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead and uphold safety policies, procedures and housekeeping standards to make safety a priority at all times. Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated mechanical maintenance skills Detailed Selection Criteria: Teamwork- Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal. Communication- The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand. Accountability- Displays responsibility with work habits and has ability to hold others accountable for desired results. Initiative- Being proactive with seeking out work that needs to be done and being willing to take on responsibilities and challenges. Problem Solving & Judgement/ Decision Making- Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options in order to choose the most appropriate solution. Controlling Machines & Processes- Using either control mechanisms or direct activity to operate machines and processes, this includes monitoring machines and processes to ensure they are working properly. Electrical- Knowledge of basic electrical theory, including troubleshooting, installation, repair and/or maintenance of electronic equipment. Maintenance Systems & Techniques- Knowledge of servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment. Preferences: 2 years industrial maintenance/production experience OR completion of an Engineering/Technical program. Welding certified with fabrication experience preferred. Mobile equipment/overhead crane experience. Fundamental knowledge of milling/lathe equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmissions, bearings, lubrications, blueprint reading, and precision measuring instruments.
