What You’ll Do
Using overhead crane, unload, load, and prepare for shipments reinforcing steel bars.
Your Responsibilities
- Must adhere to Nucor Rebar Fabrication’s safety programs and standards.
- Demonstrate conduct consistent with Nucor’s vision and values.
- Operate overhead crane to stage rebar bundles.
- Perform daily safety inspection of cranes at start and end of shift.
- Operate magnetic overhead crane to unload tractor trailers.
- Handle chains with hook and wooden spacers to stage rebar bundles.
- Load trucks with bundled rebar.
- Use forklift to move product around shop yard.
- Shunt trucks within yard as necessary to facilitate loading/unloading.
- Coordinate and review shipment paperwork.
- Will be cross trained on rebar shear and/or bender to assist with shop production, as needed.
- Assist with cleanup and housekeeping of shipment and shop areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future
- Must be age 18 or over
- At least one year previous experience operating overhead cranes.
- Able to read and comprehend basic safety and operational instructions
- Able to perform basic math for accurate bar measurements
- Be willing to submit to drug testing (including for THC) if offered a position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to use small hand tools (pliers, broom, etc.)
- Previous experience using a forklift preferred
- Previous experience operating shunt truck preferred
- Must commit to completing overhead crane operations and safety program training within first 90 days of employment.
- If hired, must successfully complete Yard/Shunt Truck Operator Certification program
- Frequent overtime is required during peak seasons.
- Some heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and pushing of loads is necessary.
- Working conditions can be noisy/ dusty/ hot/ cold.
