Basic Job Functions:
Nucor Steel Auburn is seeking candidates for the position of Chief Metallurgist. This position is responsible for providing leadership for the Quality Department and for developing an effective strategy incorporating all departments to achieve the quality goals of the division through a team-oriented and cooperative approach. This position will be directly involved in new product development, evaluating and resolving customer claims, review of product inquiries, failure analysis, coordinating continuous improvement products and support for the production teams. The successful candidate will work on quality trends, root cause, corrective actions, internal and external audits and will also be involved in instrument rations, recordkeeping and document control. The Chief Metallurgist is a safety and environmental advocate and will help to add value to the safety and environmental culture of the division. Not only will this position be a leader who will work with the Melt Shop and Roll Mill but will also provide support for our sales team and customers. Customer interactions will include customer communication and visits.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, a related degree, or equivalent work experience
- Five years of steel industry experience
- Previous leadership experience
- Two years of experience managing or working within a formal Quality Management System
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and application of product and testing specifications such as ASME, ASTM, ISO, etc.
- Demonstrated results in steel making process optimization and new product development
