Basic Job Functions
The Buyer will lead and coordinate all efforts under the procurement business area. Responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting all operating and administrative areas of the company through fulfillment of procurement needs in a timely and cost effective manner by:
- Evaluating vendors’ product and/or service capabilities
- Negotiating prices and terms with vendors
- Consulting with legal partners on contract matters
- Monitor inventories and usage patterns to determine optimal inventory levels
- Monitoring current buy strategies based on known steel and product market conditions
- Maintaining inventory control systems
- Issuing purchase orders and maintaining purchasing policies and procedures
- Maintaining service contracts
- Collaborating with other Nucor entities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- At least one year of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
- At least three years of purchasing experience in manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience appropriate for commodities or products handled.
